Re: midwife v. doula
i think doula is like a labor coach and cannot deliver a baby.. and i think a midwife also coaches you during labor..i could be wrong..

Re: midwife v. doula
In addition to providing care to women during pregnancy and birth, many midwives also provide primary care to women, well-woman care related to reproductive health, annual gynecological exams, family planning, and menopausal care.
A labor doula or birth doula is someone (often trained, though this is not required) who provides non-medical and non-midwifery support (physical and emotional) to a woman leading up to and during her labor and delivery. A labor doula may attend a woman having a home birth or a woman laboring at home before transporting to a hospital or a birth center, where she will continue her support. They do not perform clinical duties such as heart rate checks or vaginal exams, or give medical advice. Labor doulas rely on techniques like massage, positive positioning, emotional support, encouragement, and nurturing to help women through labor.
Midwives are generally covered under insurance. Doulas are not.
If you are looking for a Doula you can check out this site: link
I used Vicki Moody with DS. Love her and would highly recommend her. She is based on LI but does travel. FM me if you want her info.

Re: midwife v. doula
midwives proved physical care and are licensed, YES they do coach you during labor.
A doula is just a support person which is also great to have helping you alongside a midwife!

Re: midwife v. doula
Doulas provide labor support, midwives actually deliver babies -- they can do everything doctors can except surgery.
