Ready to throw in the towel.
My weight is just STUCK. No matter what I change as far as diet and no matter how I vary my workouts I am permanently stuck at this weight. Now it's not a horrible thing..I am not overweight and I don't look terrible but now it is just kind of pissing me off more than anything! I want nothing more to achieve my fitness goals and am working so hard and just not seeing ANY results. My weight shot up after my cheat meal over the weekend which is normal but it hasn't come back down yet. I'm not sure what else to do. ANy suggestions?

Re: Ready to throw in the towel.
I know when I am very lean or trying to just lose a few pounds it is very difficult. What is your current weight and what is your goal weight? When you say your weight "shot up" from one cheat meal I wonder how much you have gained...Is it more then 5 lbs? Is it possible you have increased you sodium intake? This could lead to water retention. Is it possible you may be trying to lose more weight then is healthy for your body? If you decrease your caloric intake too much you may put your body into starvation mode...Try varying your intake over the next few days. I would try varying carbohydrate intake. Sorry for all the questions!

Re: Ready to throw in the towel.
How often do you weigh yourself? I used to be guilty of about 6 times a day (yes, every day over and over again). I cut it down to twice a day...then every day...then every other day. Now I weigh myself ONCE a week (or at least I'm trying to). I obsess over my weight sometimes and its very easy to become caught up in the number. I find the less I weigh myself the less anxious I feel about it. Especially because sometimes a cheat meal can take a couple days to dissapear from the scale.
Also, do you think your ideal weight is attainable AND maintainable? On my wedding day I was 116lbs (I'm 5'5") and estatic. Since then I haven't dropped below 120. It's taking me awhile, but I'm starting to realize that maybe 120 just isn't a maintainable weight for me. It's a 4lb difference and it won't kill me. I'm still athletic and in shape. My personal trainer even told me I don't need to lose weight...I just need to change the makeup of my body (less fat...more muscle).
I'm just sharing my experience because I think you might be in really good shape but getting too hung up the number (and if I'm wrong, I apologize- I don't mean to judge!!).

Re: Ready to throw in the towel.
Thanks ladies!
It's not even that I have a goal weight in mind. Right now I am 102. I am 5 ft tall. At my wedding I was 95lbs. I thought I looked a bit scrawny so worked really hard to put on some muscle over about 7 months. I gained around 9 lbs. With that came some body fat that I am trying to lose. I was down at about 100 feeling pretty good and then I went back up to 102 no matter what I did. I just can't seem to lose again. I want a lean and sculpted look and I want to fit into my old clothes. Now granted, this might not ever happen since the shape of my body has changed, right?
I'm currently working with a nutritionist and trainer and it seems like no matter what they change (and I totally follow their plans) I can't budge. It is just so frustrating.
Colleen, I do wonder if i am trying to go too low and my body is haulting me. But my fear now is that I am at such a restricted amount of food at 102 that if I start bumping up my caloric intake I will get bigger and even more uncomfortable, ya know?
Thoughts?

You can only lose so much weight Lauren, and maybe your body is trying to tell you it's done. Eventually your body has to stop losing, or it'll just disappear. I'm thinking it's your body's way of saying No.

I know you're worried about gaining weight...but how much are you eating now? Do you FEEL restricted/deprived? You don't want to live your life restritcting yourself.

I totally agree with this.
Also take into consideration that your body shape will change as you get a little older. At 25 I had NO HIPS at all but at 34 I have more of a curve. I am still thin and my friends and family laugh at me when I say that I now have hips and hate it but to me it is a change that took time to adjust to.

I agree too. Lauren, you're tiny and look fabulous! I know it's hard but I think this has more to do with your mental stuff then actual body stuff (if that makes sense..)

I know youare totally right Diane. I am just having such a difficult time right now and am trying to feel better in anyway I can and it's just not happening yet. My nutritionist said to keep plugging along for right now...I am getting my thyroid checked in two weeks and we will see what that says. Sadly, I think it might be that my body is just done losing weight. I'm not sure how to achieve my fitness goals at this point since losing weight seems to be out of the question. Thanks for your support ladies.

Re: Ready to throw in the towel.
Maybe you're overtraining Lauren. I know you were adding the tabatas into your workouts and doing ALOT of them...maybe this change in your workout and the addition of the anaerobic exercises is putting you out of a fat burning zone.
Just a thought- I've had this problem in the past myself

When you go to get your thyroid checked have the endocrinologist check your basal metabolic rate. It is a simple test where you have to breathe into a machine for 10 minutes. It will determine how many calories you need at rest, during moderate activity and intense activity. It will help you and your nutritionist to tailor your eating plan to your needs.

Yep. In one of my college classes we learned about something called set point weight. It's like your body's ideal weight. Your body will fight to keep you at that weight. If you try to diet lower than that weight your body will hold onto stored fat, etc to try and keep you there.

It depends on your health insurance plan. I do not need a referral to see specailists. I see an endocrinologist b/c I have hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune thyroid disease- I would highly recommend my doctor. Dr. Perry Herson, 99 Hillside Ave Suite 99f, Williston Park, NY 11596, (516) 746-0772. I actually travel from the Bronx to see him.

Re: Ready to throw in the towel.
You are beating yourself up and feeling discouraged at weighing 102 pounds? Really?
Sorry....I just don't get it. Why do you want to be any less? It doesn't make sense. You're 5 feet tall. You are at the perfect model weight.
I don't mean to sound insensitive but without knowing you or anything about you just from reading that, it sounds like you have issues with weight..I don't think you're prob meant to any less than that...
I had a friend is HS who was obsessed with being under the 100 pound mark. she was 5'2". She was always about 99 pounds or so ( at one time 95). She had an obsession with the number. Everyone around her could see a girl who was a stick and had no fat on her but she obviously had body dysmorphic disorder.
My point is..don't get crazy over the number. Life is too short to be obsessed with 2 pounds in my opinion.

It's normal for your weight to fluctuate constantly throughout a week. I don't think you need an endocrinologist honestly...i think your body is telling you to relax and not be so restricted.

Thanks for your reply. I am well aware that I am going through some isues and am seeking therapy for it. I hope your friend did.
I wouldnt have an issue with the number so much as many of my clothes have become snug. At 5 ft tall a small increase in weight makes a difference with how your clothes fit and like many, I don't have a fortune to go and buy new things. I also know that at 102 pounds I am not fat and am in no way saying that I am. I am just feeling uncomfortable. Hope you can understandt hat.
Also the reason I am seeking medical help is because I am having some other symptoms that could suggest a thyroid issue. If it was just this, I certainly wouldn't jump to that conclusion.

If you are having other symptoms I totally understand getting the thyroid checked! I had mine checked a while back...i was working so so hard and not losing a thing..but i had 20 pounds to lose. With me, I had just gone off birth control and my body would just not let go of the weight until 2 months later!
I hear ya about a few pounds making a difference the shorter you are..my SIL always says that to me (she is 5'2" and 125 which is a good weight for her but if she goes to 130 its MUCH different than me going from 150-155 which isn't so noticeable at 5'7").
I'm sorry if i came off a certain way. Your weight just sounds so perfect to me..very little you know? So its concerning to hear you being upset about..but i get where you're coming from.
Hope you find the answers you're looking for!

One day, you might look back at the body you are unhappy with, and realize how good it looked. Enjoy it now, how healthy it is, how hard it is working for you, and how it can handle everything you demand of it.
