I am ready to throw in the PT towel

I need to be talked down.

He is so damn fresh. He hits, kicks, screams.

He did great this morning - peed once an hour for the first four hours. Since 9:35 he has had 4 accidents (1 poop, 3 pee)

Mind you he was on the toilet minutes before each of those accidents.

I get that he is going to have accidents but he is so nasty that I can't take it. What do I do? Give up and try again in a month or so? Keep with it for a day or two? I can't wait till nap time to put him in a diaper.

I hate this. They should have people who train your kids for $$$$

My DD was the stubborn one. I remember sitting on the bathroom floor crying, thinking I just couldn't do it. She was the same as Jack. And I used to think she pooped her underwear just to pi s s me off.

Once I picked myself up and got on with things, I kept moving forward. I didn't stop. I felt like I was torturing myself. But you know what, 2 days later, it clicked with her and she trained. just like that.

Re: I am ready to throw in the PT towel

i feel like it really put a strain on our relationship.

I know it wasn't his fault...but i could not handle the accidents.
he peed no problem...but poop was a no go for 8 long months. i figured i had 3 weeks behind me, too much vested time. then a month...kept going. 8 months!

If there is such negative resistance I would give up and try again in a month. I had to do that with DD#1, but she was never angry just scared. Accidents will happen, but if it's "traumatic" for them my approach is to back off and give some time.

This is how I feel. He is so hardheaded and stubborn, and fresh! My god! I'm not even getting mad at him for the accidents but every time I put him in the bathroom he starts flipping out.

I'm not sure how much more I can take.

They should have people you can pay to do this for you.

The thing is, he is ALWAYS fresh, it's that I'm making him do something he doesn't want to do.

Re: I am ready to throw in the PT towel

i read a lot about it in my 8 months. every kid has a price. something is going to make them go, you just have to find out what it is.

for some, it is as simple as praise and being a big kid now.

some is candy
some toys

only thing that clicked with him was throwing water balloons at people.

i was initially so against bribing, but then after almost losing it decided to give m&m's a try...worked like a charm...

He is big into skittles and M&Ms. I bought him a ton of toys but have been giving him the candy since the 3rd time. He just peed on the potty now. Whew!

We had problems too with DS. I tried, praise, I tried stickers but it was finally m&m's that worked. And just M&M's. We tried chocolate bars (pieces of hershey bars) but that didn't work - just the m&m's. It took a while too and at one point we gave up for a little while and went back to it.

Re: I am ready to throw in the PT towel

My plan was to keep on track as long as she or I didn't get too frustrated. I felt using a chart she could put stars on for her "hits" really helped. Has this just been this morning or going on for a few days?

Had I been dealing with nasty, stubborn behavior form more than a day or so I probably would have gone back to diapers for 4-6 weeks and then tried again.

I def. want to make a sticker chart! I'll have to get everything I need tomorrow.

This has just been going on this morning - I just took off the diaper when he woke up.

He just went on the potty again for skittles. I may forget the toys all together and just stick with Skittles. They seem to be working (For the both of us Chat Icon Chat Icon )
