Irish Butter?
What is it? What does it taste like? How do you use it?

Re: Irish Butter?
This is the first I've ever heard of it- but I did a google search and came up with this...
Irish butter, as well as Danish and several other European style butters- have a higher butterfat content thatn amreican butters. they are creamier, have a smoother moughfeel, and sometimes even a slightly cheesy charachter to their taste. The butters are made from mik from different breeds of cow that are fed in different climates eating different fodder- all factors that influence the final product. American butter, by contrast is waxier, blander, and especially when salted, saltier. That's not to say I don't use American myself- I dont think the cost is worth the extra 3-5% butterfat.
Soooo it's just yummier but fattier and more expensive butter I suppose?

DS eats creamcheese out of the container...I can only imagine what he'd do with this.

Re: Irish Butter?
I just bought some. There is one with garlic that I plan on making garlic bread with. I also have a plain one that I have no idea what to do with.

Re: Irish Butter?
Love Irish butter, slathered thickly on soda bread, melted over boiled potatoes or veggies. It is rich and creamy because it has a higher fat content than supermarket butter. I buy Kerrygold, it's usually with the cheeses in the supermarket. Plugra, made here in the States, or Lurpak which is Danish are good substitutes for Irish butter.

Me too. I use it when baking and in cream sauces to finish the sauce.

Re: Irish Butter?
I have seen Kerrygold butter at Trader Joes, I notice that its darker yellow than American butter, and it has a more, well buttery taste. Delish. Great on crumpets! Great on anything!
