Rough night- Anyone BTDT?
I am 34.5 weeks. After going for a growth sono of my LO yesterday my dr. sent me to the hospital. Luckily all looks great with the baby. Measuring about 5 1/2 lbs. Fluid looks good, etc. But my urine was brown and showed blood and protein. I've been feeling very sick and vomitting like crazy due to heartburn.
They put me on IV for hydration and did a sono of my bladder and kidneys. They found nothing. Now I need to see a urologist.
They also found that I am severely anemic and he said I will need a blood transfusion if my numbers don't go up before my scheduled c section. This really scared me! Sooooo, 2 questions:
-Has anyone had a similar experience as far as the urine and seen a urologist? What do they do?
-Has anyone needed or been close to needing a transfusion due to anemia? Do you think it's possible to get my numbers up in 5 weeks?
Sorry so long, TIA for any feedback!

Re: Rough night- Anyone BTDT?
I had blood and bacteria in my urine when I was pregnant with DS. Initially my doctor thought UTI but after a round of antibiotics it didn't seem to clear up. So she sent me to a urologist. The urologist didn't seem to be too concerned. There was no protein in my urine (which is a sign for pre-eclempsia) so he basically said to stay hydrated and follow up if I start to experience pain peeing. I think this was around 35/36 weeks.
I get anemic when pregnant. What I was pregnant with DS they realized around 36 weeks I was anemic and low on potassium when I was hospitalized for high blood pressure. They told me to eat more veggies and bananas.
This time when I took the 1 hour glucose my OB did a CBC as well. Which is when he realized I was pretty anemic (26 weeks) and put me on an iron pill. He hasn't checked my blood since and hasn't mentioned anything about a transfusion.

Re: Rough night- Anyone BTDT?
did they tell you to take iron supplements? That's what I was told to do. Not sure how low my numbers were, but I'm hoping that the supplements will help.

Re: Rough night- Anyone BTDT?
I ws told at the hospital recently that I was very anemic and my hemaglobin and hematocrit were REAL low. They gave my an iron pill and so far it has raised it a little tiny bit, but Dr Kofinas told me it takes like 4-6 weeks to really improve and who knows how long I have at this point! He told me to ask my Ob to send me to a hematologist for a shot which works much faster.(according to my OB it works in like 2wks) so now I am waiting to see what they are going to do about that. They told me if I deliver now I will definitely need a transfusion before my c-section. Worst case scenario I am trying to see if they will let my hubby donate for it !! I DO NOT want anything to do with a transfusion!!

I know, this is how I feel about a transfusion. The idea freaks me out completely! I'll have to inquire about the shot. I am taking the SLow FE because prescription strength KILLED my stomach.

Re: Rough night- Anyone BTDT?
I was so anemic during my pregnancy and after my emergency c-section that I had to have a transfusion. During my pregnancy, I was on iron. It helped a little. It made me so sick though. My number in the hospital was 6. I should have been between 12-14. I knew something was really wrong after I had DS. The day I was suppose to go home, I told the nurse I didn't feel right. They did blood work right away and told me that I NEEDED a transfusion. It probably saved my life...I felt a little better after that. But it took me weeks to get better. The extreme exhaustion was horrible. My Mom had to stay with me for 2 weeks in the beginning because I couldn't be on my feet for more then 10 minutes. Once my numbers got better, I felt better. Take all the iron you can now...A blood transfusion isn't so bad.
