if you didn't finish your basement...but...
If you didn't finish your basement, but spruced it up to make it less dungeon like, what did you do? or, what can I do?
Our basement is so gross..... cement, dark, scary (LOL). What can we do to spruce it up in the meantime? Our washer dryer is down there.

- Add Ligting
- Paint it a neutral color or a soft color
- Add some furniture
- Add a Rug

Just painting the walls will make a huge difference. You don't need to put up drywall or anything, just paint the concrete walls white, or another light color, and it will dramatically change the look of the basement.

I agree, I used drylock paint for the walls and it really changed things. Repaiting the floor as well helps.

we added recessed lights to the ceiling (its bare not set in an actually ceiling just attached to the beams) and after we clean out the basement and vacuum and wash down everything I plan on repairing the walls (some damage) by skiming it with cement and then painting it with some moisture lock in a bright color. Then adding epoxy floor stuff on the floor this way its sealed and will look so much better.

ITA. We did these things as well. Painted the walls white & the floor grey. We also have those locking tiles on half of the floor, which is our "gym" section.
I also think that painting the stairs and adding those skid strips made it look a lot better.

I did white walls and grey floor as well. I agree about the stairs. Ripped the old carpet off mine, painted them grey too. Simple low cost things you can do to clean it up and make it less boogie-manish down there

The previous owner of our house painted the basement walls and floor. She added tons of flourescent lighting. It is not scary at all and I think these are the reasons.
