When to start counting down...
Ok, so when someone says they are 1DPO, does that count from the first day you got your smiley or the day you don't get it anymore?
I got my :) on Thursday, friday yesterday, and this morning. Does that make me 3 DPO?

For me, 1dpo is the day after I ovulate but I know exactly when I ovulate since I temp.

the way i do it is...
if i get my  on wednesday... i figure that i am going to O on Thursday... so i count Friday as 1DPO

It's different for everyone, but 1dpo is the day after you ovulate. The only way to know when you ovulate is to temp as OPK's only tell you that you should be Oing in the next 12-36hrs. not that you are Oing at the time or will definitely O. So you could get a positive OPK but never actually O.

This is what I do. I don't usually test once I get a smiley. If I were you, I would probably count the last + as your O day and then count the next day as 1DPO.
