Anyone ever paint their cabinets?

We have ugly CHEAP a$$ cabinets! We are going to paint them and the walls to do a DIY kitchen redo for now.

Anyone ever do this and do you have pics?? Especially if they were white or cream.

Re: Anyone ever paint their cabinets?

we paint ours (green & stain over it to give an antique look)

i have tons of pics in my album. i took off all the doors, sanded them, painted them (2 coats i think), once they were dry i stained them lightly with a rag. after all was said and done, i sprayed them with a clear satin finishing spray.
i havent had any problems with them chipping or anything of that nature.

we are actually thinking about painting them again (i never wanted green, but everyone talked me out of my original idea)

Re: Anyone ever paint their cabinets?

We have painted cabinets, white. A few years ago I took all the doors off and removed the hardware. I was putting the handles in a different spot on the doors so I filled in the old holes with wood fill and sanded them down. I washed all the doors and cabinet fronts and insides with Murphy's oil soap and let dry thoroughly

then I sanded the cabinets down, where I did the wood fill and any other rough and bumpy parts of the doors or cabinets.

My cabinets were painted with a high gloss so I went with that again. I did 2 coats. let it dry completely, then attached the new hardware on the doors and hung them.

It made the whole kitchen look refreshed and bright. Its really not hard.
Here are some pics of the kitchen renovation that we did.

We are looking for that antique look. What kind of stain did you use?

Thanks so much!

I refinish furniture as a hobby. After I paint it white or an antique white I go over it with Ralph Lauren tobacco glaze. You can find it at Home Depot in the paint section. I rub it in the corners and leave a bit to give it that aged look then I rub it all over then wipe it down.

I did. Used a primer in same color first. Woods tend to grab...

Re: Anyone ever paint their cabinets?

thanks ladies.

we got a small can of dark wood stain. just apply it with a rag and wipe. try not to use too much at a time (if you want it dark apply multiple times) the stain can cause drip spots.

We did - I'll see if I can find pics.

They were a horrible dark brown color and DH sanded them down and painted them white. It bought us some time in renovating our kitchen.
