Cheapest produce
I eat alot of fruits and veggies. I realized a large part of my grocery bill is spent on them. I usually buy from the supermarket.
Where do you think has the cheapest produce? Supermarket? Local farmer's mrket? Trader Joe's?
I might have to start shopping around but I figured I'd ask first to get some opinons!

Re: Cheapest produce
I think the biggest thing that will save you money is eating fruits and vegetables that are in season in this region.
We got really spoiled living in San Diego the past three years because there was always fresh fruits and vegetables available for discounted prices during every season. Here, it's more difficult to find good prices. I've shopped at farmer's markets in SD and found awesome prices, but here the markets seem to have higher prices.

Re: Cheapest produce
I find my local fruit/veggie markets usually have the best prices. I also shop depending on what the prices are for the week. Like for some reason tomatoes were $4.99/lb this week...I'm not eating tomatoes this week. LOL
I also think Best Yet Market has good prices on produce.

Re: Cheapest produce
I tend to go where I find the most variety and best quality produce. So I like two stores for that and from those two I pick one depending on what else I need or what else in on sale at that store that I need.
In the summer I like produce shopping at farm stands because the produce is local and usually better.
I don't think the prices vary that much but every now and then I find a big discrepancy. Yesterday asparagus was $1.99/lb at Shoprite where it was $3.99 at Fairway.
Yesterday Shoprite won all around.

Re: Cheapest produce
You will be surprised but Whole Foods actually have some good prices on certain fruits and veggies. Generally fruit for fruit they beat out Waldbaums (our normal store).

Re: Cheapest produce
I buy at Compare; best product prices around. I find apples/oranges/bananas to be cheaper, and plums/pears/berries to be more expensive.

Re: Cheapest produce
In the summer fresh farm stands if you have any.
Do you have a C-Town Supermarket? By me, they have the cheapest and best quality produce. I once spent $17.50 and I got a TON of broccoli, 2 yellow peppers, 4 avocados, a small package of grapes, dried apricots, a head of iceburg lettuce, a peach, 5 cucumbers, scallions, bag of baby carrots, a very large cabbage, and a dozen eggs.
Also, shop the sales for fruits and veggies, rotate what you eat based on what is seasonal.

Re: Cheapest produce
Also, if you eat a lot of it quickly - Sam's Club (and probably BJs or Costco as well). The prices are usually better there, but I tend not to buy fruits and veggies in bulk because I like a variety and I can't eat it quick enough before it goes bad and I have to throw it out. Usually I get my raspberries and blueberries there because it is the cheapest and I eat those like most people drink water.

Re: Cheapest produce
BJs and Costco. Don't be afraid to buy in bulk, especially when a lot of things are out of season (like now). We go through a lot of fruits and veggies in my house as well and we hardly ever have anything go bad on us (and it's usually just DH &I).
