Has anyone had a hysteropolpingography

I think i spelled it right...lol My doc gave me a prescription to ge this done. She also has me going for a sono, which I want to do first. Just wondering if anyone had this done and what should I expect. I probably won't go until next month because my doc said I should go right after my period.

Re: Has anyone had a hysteropolpingography

have to go a specifica # of days after you rperiod so call the lab....they will tell you what days you can do it.

Some people will tel you its horrible. Soem wwill have lots of pain. Some will tell you its nothing and had no pain.

I was one with no pain. It took about 45 mins and the longest time was just the set up. The actual proceedure was quick. I had no blockage so that might have been why I had no discomfort. The Dr also used the smallest cathedar so that eliminated some discomfort I would have had.

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I heard the same thing as far as the pain thing. I'm nervous about going, but know that I have to. That's why I want to do the sono first...was everything ok with your test?

Re: Has anyone had a hysteropolpingography

do you mean Hysterosalpingography? or is that different?

if it is the Hysterosalpingography (HSG), I had it done about a month ago. It was quick and painless during the procedure. Took like 5 minutes! I had very minor cramping later in the day but nothing bad at all. They just said to wear a pad for a day bc you may leak out some dye and also not to have sex for 24 hours after.

Good luck!!!

I had one done a few years ago, pretty painless, but I took 2 advils an hour before going. Bring pads with you, because I was spotting a little afterwards. Good Luck!!!

Re: Has anyone had a hysteropolpingography

I guess I am one of the ones that had the most painful experience. Thank god it was pretty quick 20 min total and the dye injection was 10 sec but after it was done I almost passed out.
Definetly take an advil or motrin before cause if I did have cramping afterward it wasnt that bad. For me i had no blockage but Im still waiting for my BFP.

Good luck to you.
Ps I hear that for some the HSG does the trick.

Re: Has anyone had a hysteropolpingography

I had an HSG in October. You have to do it 6-9 days after your period, if I remember correctly - you can't be bleeding anymore, and they need to be 100% sure you're not pg.

They put an X-Ray machine over your abdomen to look at your uterus and tubes. Then they put a catheter up your uterus and shoot dye into it, watching the X-Ray to see if the dye then moves through the fallopian tubes. If it does, then your tubes are open and an egg could pass through them. If the dye doesn't make it through, then your tube is swollen shut or blocked by something, and an egg wouldn't pass through it, even if you've been ovulating, which explains some couples' infertility.

My HSG was pretty uncomfortable. They had trouble getting the catheter in the right place. There was a burning, cramping pain in my pelvis while they filddled with it - maybe 10 minutes? But 10 minutes of cramps was worth it to get me one step closer to my BFP (which I got the following cycle! Chat Icon )

Thanks! It must be this because it's the dye test.

That's awesome you got your BFP the next cycle. The doctor told me that has happened before. But did you have a blockage? and can you tell if you have a blockage with a sono? or even feel it?

Re: Has anyone had a hysteropolpingography

I went for the HSG test last week. I was so scared to do it I made myself nearly sick prior. I went on CD8 and took 3 tylenol before hand (they said I could ONLY take tylenol). Once I got there you are not supposed to pee until after the test.

While I was waiting the nurse said I could actually pee that "this doctor doesn't require a full bladder" so thank god I got to go because when I am nervous (which I was) I have to pee.

The test to me was 99% anticipation and 1% pain. My monthy cycle is like 10x worse. The dye part was very light cramping and everything was clear and "perfect" he said. The test was about 2 minutes on the table with only 15 seconds of the dye. Loved that results were instant.

I had no dye that I could see come out, a little lube and then some bright blood, just a bit. Then it turned to brown for the rest of the day, really just spotting though. About 4 hours after the test I did get some cramping but again not even close to as bad as AF cramps.

I am currently on CD17 so I don't know if it did the trick. From what I have heard even if you are not blocked there is a slight higher percent of BFP afterwards. I assume the dye just clears the tubes of cells and paves the way a little better for the sperm.

Also wanted to add I thought they'd be actually injecting me with dye, it's not actually a needle, they just use a thin tube to push the dye through.

Lots of luck, hoping this does the trick for you! Don't be nervous, the anticipation was the worst!

Reading this put my mind at ease. Like you, I'm making myself sick over this and didn't even find the lab to even make the appt! I have to wait for AF next month to show (i'm hoping she won't). So happy to hear that your results were good and that is awesome that they tell you right away. There's nothing worse than waiting for results. Thank you so much for this info Chat Icon

I did not have a blockage. I've heard that even if you don't have a blockage, shooting the dye through your tubes opens them wider and makes them more receptive to incoming sperm for about 3 months. I don't know if it's true, but I got my BFP about 6 weeks after the test, so I'm not arguing!

Awww, anticipation is the worst! Honestly I was so sick in the waiting room I was thinking "Do I really even want a baby this bad?"

I guess everyone can have a different experience but I used Medical Arts Radiology in Huntington and the Dr. there was very gentle and the place super modern and clean.

Re: Has anyone had a hysteropolpingography

For me it wasn't too bad. More uncomfortable than painful. I would say it was no more painful than bad AF cramps. A little bit crampy for the rest of the day and some light spotting. IMO the worst part was the funny discharge after. All the dye and whatever else they use comes out and is a brownish/blackish color. I had no blockage and it was a quick, maybe 10 min, procedure. I hope yours is just as smooth. Chat Icon
