So as my due date gets closer I'm becoming more and more worried!!!
I think it's the stage I'm at during this pregnancy but with a little less than 10 weeks left I'm really starting to worry if I'll be a good mom. My maternal instincts have not kicked in yet. Its weird because it's like I don't feel overly motherly or nurturing. Is this even normal?! At times I still can't believe I'm going to be a mom. It's surreal and it scares me; am I going to be a good mom? Am I responsible enough to be a parent? How am I going to handle the fact that life isn't about me anymore, it's all about this little girl? Am I ready (it's horrible to think this way because there is no turning back) but I'm really scared. Im even scared of raising this girl; making sure she has the right values, etc. What will I do when she's a teenager?! I just get so worried and now the fear is really starting to sink in. Do you ever feel this way? I hope I'm not alone in thinking this. Parenting kind of freaks me out!

I think its totally normal. One minute I am so very excited and the next scared out of my mind. I think the maternal instinct kicks in when you give birth.

Coming from a BTDT mom - what you are feeling is totally normal. I remember thinking "How am I going to know exactly what this baby needs???" I watched some Oprah episode and the mom said she could tell the different cries that her kid had (hungry, tired, gassy etc.) I thought she was full of it, but you know what, you just pick up on the needs of your children.
I pretty much know what my kids want before they even ask for it now. Maternal instinct kicks in. Life is hard in the beginning because it's an adjustment putting someone else's needs before your own. I actually think going from 0-1 kids is harder than going from 1-2 kids.
But, the second you hold your daughter you'll know that you were meant to be her mother. The rest of the stuff you will learn along the way.
Everyone on Parenting is really great and I have gotten the most amazing advice from the moms over there. I wouldn't know half the stuff I do without that board. Take the advice and apply it to your DD in a way that works for the both of you!
You will be a great mom, I promise!

I'm sure you will be a wonderful mom, and your maternal instincts will kick in. And I'm sure that all the moms in the world have had to "wing it" at one time or another, so if you just go with it, you will raise a very successful woman.
also, I'm nervous as heck!

I'm right there with you
DH is prone to anxiety attacks, and I am not, but lately he's just floating around on cloud 9 and I'm having panic attacks
Every day I come up with something new to freak out over. Last week I freaked out over diapers
From everything I've read (from the BTDT moms especially) it is totally common.

That's very normal love. You will be a great mother. My best advice is every baby is different. Find what works best for you and her.

Thanks girls. It's very comforting to hear that I'm not alone. I really am scared. I just hope I can be a great mother. I get so worried that I'm not going to be able to care for her correctly and completely screw up because I really have no idea what I'm doing!

I swear to you, once you meet your LO all of your maternal instincts kick in...............
Within 24 hours of having Mason I was a pro at all things baby (and I had zero experience).
As for parenting style, just take it 1 day at a time........

I feel this way a lot. I think it's normal.
I read something (forget which book), that said if you're worrying about being a good mom, you will be a good mom, because bad parents dont worry about that stuff. I thought it was true.

I've always heard that too. It's very reassuring! I just hope I know what I'm doing somewhat!!!

Kristin..
This Diana chick knows her stuff!
Well said.
I promise you, once you have your little angel in your arms for the first time, the world will stop. Though the worrying will never end... believe me... it NEVER does!, your motherly instincts will take over.
This you will never understand until you become a mom.

I feel the same way! Thanks for posting because it makes me feel better knowing I'm not alone!! I am going the the fact that all friends with children tell me that once the baby is in your arms there is nothing like it and you will do whatever you have to without even thinking about it!

As a BTDT mom...i felt the same way right before DS was born. Honestly somes days i still feel like that and wonder if I'm doing right by him and how everything I do affects him. Take everyday as it comes.
You're going to be an amazing mom!
