To "sprinkle" or not to "sprinkle"...

Ok.. This is my 2nd dc... I have a dd, and this time I am having a ds... Do I have a little shower for him? My Greek family says yes, but I don't know how my husbands family will take it. I want nothing to do with it, and if someone plans it, great... What do you think?

I don't know. How old is your DD? On one hand, you are going to need some new little things for your DS, but on the other, unless the two children are very far apart in age, some people may think it is strange to ask for more gifts for the new baby.

I don't think I would have one, but I'm not in that position, so I really can't answer.

What's the age difference?

If I had a different sex for my second child my mother wanted to throw me a sprinkle, just with close friends and family. I really wasn't into it - but had the same sex so it didn't matter in the end. Chat Icon

i threw a sprinkler for my SIL when she had my nephew. she had my niece 1st.
I kept it small, like 10 people. and she got a whole boat load of stuff.
I think it would be nice to have something small for you little one coming

being in the same boat right now I wanted to throw in my 2cents. I am having twins so although I have one of certain things I will still need other things. More importantly I feel that EVERY baby deserves a celebration. Not that you are being greedy cause honestly I don't expect much at all, but in my case especially I lost a set of twins Mothers Day w/e 2010 at 15-16wks and have had a VERY eventful pregnancy this time around as well.
My DH wants me to have one cause like I feel he thinks every baby is a reason to celebrate with your closest friends and family AND he feels that I need something positive and happy throughout all of this. I think it is becoming more and more popular these days anyway. Just an excuse to get together with friends and family and celebrate your baby.
Don't call it a sprinkle then call it a celebration and word the invitation as so, maybe consider doing a jack and jill too so it lessens the "baby shower" issue and shows it to be more of a celebration based party.

JMO

Eta: you could also consider doing it after your baby comes. I personally dont want to do it because at the rate I am going these babies could be born any day and being twins and premature they will automatically be at risk of so much more and I don't want them to be present for that many people being in one place touching and breathing all over them. But If I was having a "normal" pregnancy and what not I would definitely have considered having it after baby.

I dont think "you" should have a little shower for him. I would just let it go and see if anyone does it. Mention that you think it might be cute etc... My mom is having a small luncheon with about 15 people for me. My kids will be 3.5 years apart..how far apart are yours?

This is what I am thinking.. if they want to have it.. so be it.. but I dont want to be the one who is having a party for myself!!! to answer the other questions, the kids will be only 2 years apart... not a big age difference.. and it would only be close family.... my siblings, aunts, uncles, a few cousins.. thats it.. but like I said.. I am going to tell them to do whatever they want... and not get involved..

I am on baby 2 also. DS is only 1 and I feel weird getting gifts again. I know both immediate families are going to get me things so I am just going to register for a few things I might need or broke with DS and they will get me those.

If they throw you one great. If not I am sure close friends and family will get you things.

hello there--crashing from TTC. My sister had her first son and i threw her a baby shower, 50ppl or so. A year later she got pg. with her second son. Even though we had a shower for her the previous year I threw her a sprinkle. This included maybe 15-20 close family and friends at a brunch. Small and intimate but something to celebrate the lo. Then when the second was about 4 months she announces shes pg. again...this time with a girl. So, another shower with about 50 ppl. Personally, I just felt that I couldnt let th first child be recognized and celebrate and not the others. But, everyone is different and has different ideas and traditions. IMO I think it is nice to have someting for each child.

Re: To "sprinkle" or not to "sprinkle"...

I am pregnant with twin Chat Icon Chat Icon . DS is 2.5. My family threw me a sprinkle.

And while I felt funny at first, I am really grateful they did. I need doubles of everything (second infant carrier, 2 more convertible car seats, double stroller, etc).

Had I only been having 1 child, regardless if it was Chat Icon or Chat Icon I would not have had a sprinkle.

Re: To "sprinkle" or not to "sprinkle"...

My mom just threw a little sprinkle for me about 2 weeks ago. It was really nice... I think about 12 people...just close friends and cousins. Im glad it was a surprise though. I had a big shower with DD and everyone was so generous....I felt awkward having another....but Im have twins so my mom wanted to do something special for me this time too. I got so many wonderful things that will be greatly needed.

this is my 3rd DC. i have a boy and a girl. i didn't really want one, but my aunt, whom i'm close to, insisted. so we're keeping it to close family. it's going to be mostly a diaper (guests bring diapers) sprinkle.

100%.... my friend is on her second and she will be having a sprinkle and we r so happy to help her stock up for her daughter

I'd rather get her stuff she needs then crap she doesn't need... it makes my life easier and helps me help my soon to be niece

For others I don't see a problem having a sprinkle. For myself, even though we gave EVERYTHING away (crib, catseat, clothes, etc) and DS will be 4 1/2, I don't want one. Everyone complains about money so I don't want this to be another thing to complain about. We already bought a crib, stroller, and high chair cheaper than anyone could get it because we were stalking sales!

I am usually against them, however I had my dc 12 years apart and had nothing from DC#1... DC 2 was also Dh's first, so his mom threw us one. I was skeptical to even invite my family, but just did a few close relatives on my side.

Also in the case of different genders, I think it would be okay if it was very scaled down to very close family and friends, but I'd understand too and wouldn't be offended if people declined the invite.

My family believes in a shower for EVERY baby, no matter what. If your family wants to do it for you just sit back and enjoy. Most people like celebrating babies

I agree, something small at someones house maybe, if ur having the opposite sex. I wouldn't throw one for myself, and I know no one will have one for me...everyone is broke from my wedding and previous baby shower..lol.
