C sections at Winthrop
I am having a csection at Winthrop next week. This is my second, but my first went earlier than my scheduled csection so I don't know the usual experience.
I have a scheduled c section for Friday. For those of you who have delivered at Winthrop via c secion here are a couple of questions.
After your csection are u put into a recovery room with other mommy's who have had csections or a general recovery room?
Can you breastfeed in the recovery room right after ur c section?
How long r u in recovery?
Finally, if you were/ are a recent mommy who delivered at Winthrop. Has it been crazy cuz I would like a private room (totally necessary), and I am wondering if that is possible.
Thanx for any info!

Re: C sections at Winthrop
I had an emergency C-Section at Winthrop 10 weeks ago. I was put in a recovery area with other moms who had a c-section, but i am not sure if it's a general recovery room.
I believe as long as everyone is doing well, they will let you have the baby with you in recovery. I had my twins real early so they went straight to the NICU, but i remember my Dr. telling me when we scheduled my c-section, that as long as everyone was fine and the babies didn't need the NICU, we would all go to recovery together. So you should be able to breast feed.
I was in recovery for 6 hours. They would not let me go to my room before that.
The day i gave birth, everyone and their mother was giving birth that same day. I had to share a room for the first 2 days. I was in the hospital for 5 days. The nurses said as long as they are not crazy busy then they are trying to accommodate everyone with private rooms.
Good luck!!!!

Re: C sections at Winthrop
My son is now 16 months old (but it feels like he was born yesterday)
You are put into a recovery area, but I'm not sure if it's just csections. I have a feeling it is.
They bring the baby out with you and he stays with you in the recovery room for awhile. I believe he was with us for about a half hour. I imagine if you are BF they will have the baby latch at this point.
Then they bring the baby to get washed up in the nursery.
You will stay in recovery until you can feel your legs and move them (My son was born at 2:09 and I was in my own room at 4pm). Once you can do this they will wheel you up to your own room (I paid for a private room at that point) and you will have to be moved into the other bed.

- csection mommies only! you are in that room too, prior to the section - not general L&D
Can you breastfeed in the recovery room right after ur c section?
- YES! if you are going to BF - the incourage it asap in recovery
How long r u in recovery?
-About an hour
Finally, if you were/ are a recent mommy who delivered at Winthrop. Has it been crazy cuz I would like a private room (totally necessary), and I am wondering if that is possible.
- I delivered May 2010 and requested a private room as soon as I walked in the door to sign in. I didnt get one until my second day there. It was crowded.
Thanx for any info!

Re: C sections at Winthrop
I had a scheduled C-Section at Winthrop on 12/9.
After your csection are u put into a recovery room with other mommy's who have had csections or a general recovery room? The recovery room I was put in was just Mommy's. There was only 1 other in there the entire time though... so one had it all to myself!! I was in there for about an hour before the C-Section as well.
Can you breastfeed in the recovery room right after ur c section? Yup!! They wheeled me from the OR to Recovery with DS on my chest. The nurses helped me put him on my breast in the Recovery Room. They were so great!
How long r u in recovery? I was in there for 1.5 hours. I had some major nausea/vomitting issues from the spinal so they kept me a little longer.
Finally, if you were/ are a recent mommy who delivered at Winthrop. Has it been crazy cuz I would like a private room (totally necessary), and I am wondering if that is possible. They will charge you $250 for a private room if they are available. When I was there, they were jam packed and I had the roommate from he l l. If you can get a private room, DO IT! It will be well worth the $$. I wish I could have.
If you have any questions, feel free to FM me!!
