GIRLS on METFORMIN
Do you drink alcohol while taking this medication? MY RE put me on this and Im going out tonight. He told me I should avoid alcohol while on this ... Is it terrible if I have a few drinks?

my doctor never told me this and i drank on it. i had no adverse effects. have fun.

dr. b told me an occasional glass of wine is okay but not to go overboard.
superbowl sunday i had like 4 beers and felt fine.

I've been on it for about 10 years. I've done everything from binge drinking (when I was younger) to the occasional glass of wine. I've never noticed any side effects that I could attribute to the metformin. Did he tell you not to drink because it would make it less effective or because you may experience side effects? If it's because it makes it less effective, then I have no way of knowing, I can only speak to side effects.

I've been on it on and off for years and I have never been advised that it's unsafe to drink on it.
