Some silly (and not so silly) mom-to-be concerns!

Okay... so every now and then, I have some recurrent worries about becoming a mom that could be considered silly, but I still want to know the answers!

If you have the answer to some of these or personal experiences that might help, please share. If you have some "silly" questions of your own, please ask away, too! Maybe we can all learn from this!

1. When I'm home alone with the baby and want to take a shower and blow dry my hair, what is the baby doing and where? Crib? Is that safe to leave the baby alone? I can't imagine having LO out of my sight! My showers and my drying time take about 30 minutes total (stupid curly hair without Japanese Straightening allowed), which seems like SUCH a long time to not have an eye on the baby.

2. First few months when baby sleeps in our room... what happens to the mommy/daddy loving? Chat Icon

3. I can't get ANYWHERE on time now... how on earth am I going to get anywhere on time when I have a baby??

4. I forget to water my plants... how am I going to take care of a human being?

5. I always "wake up" exhausted for work no matter how much sleep I get... and I always have SUCH a hard time getting out of bed. I'm assuming when I have my LO crying/waiting for me, I'll leap out, but I'm still worried about exhaustion and being out of commission all day from being tired. I do NOT do well on lack of sleep!

6. DH and I LOVE downtime... is it possible that baby will love some downtime, too? We're hoping!!

7. I feel overwhelmed sometimes with everything that has to get done in life WITHOUT a kid... it's so hard to imagine having to learn this whole new world. I do know that I'll be a great mom (not to sound full of myself - I just think it's in me), but I'm still worried about feeling like I'm drowning with responsibilities.

Some of these are partly joking and I know I'm in for a LOT of changes being mom - and it will all be worth it, but I would love your take on these thoughts and have a better glimpse on how to be better prepared. I also don't mean to sound naive or like I don't WANT to be a mom - I totally do and am SO psyched to have our baby to love... but I do have these worries. Thanks!

1. You can put the baby in the bouncy seat and have them near the door while you are getting ready, or you can leave the baby in their crib. I always showered at night, when DH was home or when DD napped, so I really didn't leave DD unattended.

2. At first DH was against Chat Icon while DD was in our room but he got over it quick...lol. I think it's all personal preference.

3. Haha I know how you feel!! DD is 3 and fully potty trained so all i have to do is get clothes on both of us but somehow I still have to start at least 2 hours before I need to be somewhere. I personally think it's easier with a newborn since they can't fight you about anything like a toddler can, just make sure the night before your diaper bag is all set to go, that helps. It's all trial and error, you'll find what works for you.

4. There is no way you'll miss something that is crying every 2-3 hours, pooping and peeing constantly not to mention the love you feel for your child, you'll never want to be apart from them

5. I'm just like you, you will be totally exhausted. Just be sure to get all the help you can, nap when the baby naps, ask DH to help....etc. Just remember it WILL get better!

6. One you get into a routine things will def. Be better

7. Again it def is trial and error, there will be days that your overwhelmed, days where your on point with everything and days where it's a little but of everything. The best advice is to take it one day at a time.

***DD slept about 20 hours a day in the beginning. I would put her in her swing or the bassinet and take my sweet time LOL if it makes you feel better, you can always get a video monitor! But don't forget if DC cries for a little bit, its ok too!

2. First few months when baby sleeps in our room... what happens to the mommy/daddy loving?

***You can definitely DTD with baby in the room. You can't even see them! If DC is in a pack and play or bassinet it has solid sides, even the crib we have breathable bumpers on it! But, I will tell you it took me MANY months to get the courage to DTD anyway LOL

3. I can't get ANYWHERE on time now... how on earth am I going to get anywhere on time when I have a baby??

***Planning, planning, planning. I pack the diaper bag the night before. Set out outfits for both of us. And ask DH for help too!

4. I forget to water my plants... how am I going to take care of a human being?

***Don't worry! DC will NOT let you forget about them, even if you wanted to - they are loud little buggers! Plus, you will want to just cuddle and be around them so much and you will remember to do all teh necessary things too! I also used an app called BABY ESP that saved my life those first few months.

**Neither do I, luckily DD STTN almost from birth! You can luck out too! :) I get almost 8 hours a sleep a night, 10 on the weekends! I just go to sleep when DD does OR you can ask for help and take shifts!

6. DH and I LOVE downtime... is it possible that baby will love some downtime, too? We're hoping!!

***First 3m DD slept 20 hours a day or more! LOL and now, she loves to just hang with us! She can play on the floor for hours if we are just laying around with her.

***It is hard to keep up, I won't lie. I am a FTWM. I just had to shift my priorities! I clean every other week instead of every week. VERY simple meals. I try to do everything when DD is napping on the weekends and I ask for help whenever I need it!

Best of Luck to you!Chat Icon

Re: Some silly (and not so silly) mom-to-be concerns!

1. In the beginning- I would try to jump in when the baby was ready for a nap- since I couldn't take the monitor into the shower with me I would put him in the moses basket in our bedroom and I would be able to hear him and get to him quickly if he started crying. Now I get ready when he's sleeping in his crib.

2. DS only slept in our room for a few nights. None of us slept well with him in the room- once we put him in his crib he slept much better. You can't have s e x for 6 weeks- so when that's up you find the time and place for it.

3. You won't be on time for things in the beginning and people will just understand. But before you know it you'll have the hang of getting out of the house and will be a pro at it.

4. Because plants don't scream and cry when they want something!

5. You will wake right up- it's a mommy thing. And your body will adjust to the lack of sleep.

6. In the beginning the baby sleeps alot- so lots of opportunities for downtime. Once they're older you can have downtime after they go to bed. I watch a tv show every night after I put DS down.

7. You will do great- I was so worried about the 1st 2 weeks and they really no where near as bad as I thought they would be. The fact that your thinking about it makes you more prepared for it.

Re: Some silly (and not so silly) mom-to-be concerns!

I think everyone has the same worries if not other ones that they think are silly

I don't have kids but from family and friends I have learned the following

1. taking a shower - put the baby in a bouncy and drag it into the bathroom with you so you can keep an eye on LO or maybe if LO is sleeping in bassinet or crib, take in the moniter with you
Also in the beginning take advantage of family coming to visit - I have a feeling the same relatives are going to drop by over and over and I will let them watch the baby and I will shower

2. For this I believe you can't have any lovin time for 6-8 weekes pending labor - plus you will prob be so exhausted from getting up alot in the night you won't want to anyway!
Once baby gets older - can you have a date night so you get alone time and someone watches the baby?
Plus I am sure you can BD with LO sleeping bassinet -t hey have no clue what is happening Chat Icon

3. Plants don't talk babies do - trust me you won't forget they are there to take care of Chat Icon

4. In the beginning when LO sleeps you sleep too, don't worry that there is laundry or dishes - taht can wait - you have to get rest in there somewhere

You just have to breathe and everything will fall into place - it will all work out- you just need to relax and let it!!

Re: Some silly (and not so silly) mom-to-be concerns!

1. I keep DD in her bouncy chair in the bathroom with me; she wont go in her crib during the day. The chair I have is for newborns. There are times in the morning though, before she wakes up, that I leave her in the crib to do laundry or whatever and she is totally fine.

2. I have had DD in her crib since the first night we brought her home. She is 7 weeks now and we are in a great routine; she sleeps 7 hours straight. We felt it was important for her to get used to her own room plus DH and I still have some privacy and sanity Chat Icon

3. you have to just allow yourself alittle extra time to pack a diaper bag and get DC in the car seat. It takes practice but you find your groove.

4. It will come naturally, dont worry.

5. Im the same way as far as sleep goes and sleep deprivation is inevitable. There were a few moments of frustration but honestly, it all goes away when you take them out of the crib and look at their little face. I know that sounds corny, but its true. Even when I could barely keep my eyes open, as soon as I saw her, I was happy and Ok to be awake.

6. Downtime with DH def changes. My DD doesnt sleep much during the day so in the evening when we eat dinner and watch TV, shes up with us. Sometimes, shes fussy. We dont really get any alone time until we go to bed. Fortunately though, we have a lot of family members who dont mind babysitting but pretty much, all our downtime now involves the baby.

7. Having a baby is a huge responsibility but I promise it comes naturally and you wont feel as overwhelmed as you think. There are times you will be tired and the baby just wont stop crying. There will be times you just dont know whats wrong with them, times you will worry if you are doing everything right, but thats natural. Once you get used to each other, it just gets easier and easier Chat Icon

Re: Some silly (and not so silly) mom-to-be concerns!

Here are my answers.

1. When the baby is little, you can leave them in the bathroom with you in the swing or carseat and shower. Once they get older, this will be harder because they won't sit still. If you can fit your exersaucer in the bathroom or by the door that works too. I shower at night when DH is home. Also when the baby is asleep in their crib, just bring the monitor in with you and turn the sound yp.

2. We only had DS in our room the first night. We couldn't take the stress of jumping up every time he paused to take a breath. I am totally against the idea of mommy/daddy loving while DC is in the room, so that wouldn't have happened. And frankly with a one year old who still wakes up at the sound of a pindrop and whose room is across the hall from ours, I can tell you that having it happen at all is a rarity.

3. Well at least you have an excuse for being late now. You just need to plan ahead and get up earlier. You will be late, it's going to happen. Just make sure if you are working, that you get to work on time.

4. You are not going to forget your child. They won't let you, they cry, LOL. Trust me, it will come more naturally than you think. Especially those first three months, you are really on autopilot.

5. I am not going to sugarcoat it, you will be exhausted all the time. DS is 14 months, and mostly STTN, and I am always exhausted. That's part of being a parent. Make sure to use your DH, make him get up too!

6. Yes, you will have downtime. DS is in bed by 8:00-8:30pm most nights and we get some time to ourselves. When they are really little, they sleep a lot. Take naps then.

7. You will be fine! Like I said, it will all come a lot more naturally than you think it will. Your child will bring joy to your lives in ways you could never imagine. Is it the hardest thing I have ever done? Hell yeah! Would I do it all over again? Well, I'm here, so yes! It's worth every moment.
