Pre-natal vitamins

Does anyone know anything about taking pre-natal vitimins without iron in them? What is the dosage of iron needed when TTC?

My doctor recently told me my iron levels are too high so I need to stop taking pre-natals containing iron. I thought all pre-natals contained iron so now I am confused. My GYN gave me a prescription for OB Complete but I think there are high levels or iron in there also.

Im not sure exactly how much you need, but im confused...why would your gyn tell you to stop taking iron and then prescribe prenatals with iron?

ita..i would call ur doc and double check cause maybe the one she gave has low or no iron

i took ob complete for a bit but it was way too expensive cause our insurance does not cover vitamins and it was like 300 bucks lol

Re: Pre-natal vitamins

I would get an over the counter multivitamin that is advertised as "low iron supplement" and then add 400mcg of folic acid if it already has folic acid in it, if not then i would add 800mcg of folic acid

My GYN didnt tell me to stop taking the iron, my regular doctor did. When I went for my routine physical the blood work came back showing too much iron so she told me to stop the vitamins. Before all this happened I had my regular GYN visit and she prescribed the OB Complete containing iron.
I found Vitafusion gummie pre-natals without iron, only thing is they dont have calcium either. I am just going to take these and supplement with a calcium pill. They have all other vitamins including folic acid and DHA.Chat Icon

Re: Pre-natal vitamins

I had a problem with the iron and my digestive system so I've been taking these gummy pre-natal vitamins. I think it's called pre-nate. they have no iron in them and they taste good too Chat Icon
