Fellow PCOS-ians....
I was diagnosed years ago with PCOS...I was on metformin for a while, then stopped taking it after successfully losing a bunch of weight.
I have EVERY symptom of PCOS...EXCEPT irregular cycles....even when I was younger, before DD, before BCP, etc....I got AF every month, between 28-30 days.
I started seeing an RE back in July, and he put me back on metformin....which I have been HORRIBLE about remembering to take (I don't know what my issue is!!! )...I stopped BCP in September/OCtober, and I've been getting AF every month since then (although the first few cycles were a bit crazy).
So I don't really KNOW if I'm ovulating (as I know you CAN get AF without ovulating), but I think I am...given the crazy symptoms that usually come along...
So here's my question...if I've not been remembering to take the Metformin regularly, should I start again now? I'm on CD11, and DH and I have been actively trying....
I know you are not supposed to take it while you're pregnant...but I'm not yet, though I'd love to be in the next few days

Re: Fellow PCOS-ians....
you can ABSOLUTELY be on metformin throughout pregnancy. ive been on it since last march for PCOS. im 19w and ill be on it the whole pregnancy according to both my RE and OB. it helps prevent gestational diabetes which is more common in women with PCOS.
i def think you should start taking it again. it takes up to three full months to be fully effective. it helps sooo many issues that are interelated to PCOS.
if you are seeing an RE why dont you have your cycles monitored to see if you are really ovulating??

I didn't know that!! Thank you! I had been told by a family member with PCOS that her ob said not to take it during pregnancy.
I started seeing the RE back in the summer just for the PCOS...we were not ttc then....I haven't been in a few months, and we just decided to start ttc this cycle....I guess if it doesn't work this time, I will follow up with him.

Re: Fellow PCOS-ians....
I'm on metformin and currently 9 weeks pregnant. My doctor wants me to stay on it for the first trimester at least and possibly the entire pregnancy. I have pcos too and 1500 mg per day helped us finally get our bfp. Lots of for you!!

I was told it really varies by doctor.. some will have you stay on it the whole time while others will have you stop by the end of the first tri.
When I was pregnant, I stopped taking met around 10wks. In the time I was pregnant (17wks) I did not have gestational diabetes. Because of the PCOS, I was told to get the test done early on in addition to the normal time everyone else does it.. so... I did it at 14wks and passed with flying colors.
