invisalign
Has anyone had invisalign? I went for a consult for it and I decided to do it!! I feel so self conscious about my teeth. I had braces but stupidly never wore my retainer. I plan to be EXTREMELY good this time with it since it is $$$. I only have to wear them for 6 months and then just a retainer at night. I go for my Molds 2/17 and then I get the invisalign within 6 weeks!
for anyone that had invisalign can you give me any insight to it? Also how extensive are the molds? do they mold your pallet or only your teeth? I remember when I had regular braces the molds were horrible because I have a bad gag reflex and Im dreading this part!
Thanks for any info!

Re: invisalign
I did the same thing as you - had great teeth but did not wear my retainer after the braces when I was a teen made my teeth great. Stupid!
Then, before my wedding, I went to correct some shifting with invisalign -- I only needed them a few months and then I got my retainer. Now, I'm good about it. My dentist also included free whitening which I loved.
DH got in on the whitening too.
I went to Dr. K in Stony Brook - love him!
Good luck!!

The molds are no joke - soooo goopy and gloppy. They def mold your entire mouth, roof, and all, including the teeth but I was fine with it. It tasted minty!

Re: invisalign
I have it. I've never had braces before so I can't compare that way. I love them. It took some getting used to, but they rarely bother me now.
The molds were a nightmare for me. I have a bad gag reflex too & it was just

Re: invisalign
Ok, first I want to say I am glad I am not the only one with a bad gag reflex! The molds were just of my teeth, but the stuff is sooo goopy, I thought I was going to gag so much I was going to throw up. My dentist was fabulous, he cut the palate part out of the molds, so nothing was going to hit my soft palate on top, it was just the goopy stuff in the teeth part.
Anyway, yes, I started Invisalign in October. I never had braces as a child/teen and really should have. My teeth are bad! It will be just over a year for me with the Invisalign. I have 24 sets of trays for my bottom and 26 sets for my top (x 2 weeks for each set).
I also have button attachments on my teeth which are a little unsightly, but I've gotten used to them (they help rotate teeth).
At about 12 weeks along, one of my bottom teeth wasn't tracking correctly, so I had to have to molds done again and my dentist ordered new sets to continue. That was the worst part, having to do the molds, pictures, etc. all over again. Wearing them doesn't hurt, maybe a little uncomfy the first 2 days of a new set of trays. It took weeks for me to get the hang of getting them off! I posted on the Health board back in October when I started, I swore I would never eat again since I couldn't get them off.
If you have any questions, let me know. I don't have dental insurance, so it was all out of pocket, but worth it all for me. I took the 2 year interest free payment plan through Chase Health Advantage. And my dentist removed my top 2 wisdom teeth first, and threw in a Zoom whitening at the end, so I can't complain.

Re: invisalign
My brother has invisalign now and is almost done.He has had it almost a year.
after my braces came off, my ortho made me a retainer that is just like an invisalign aligner. I would wear it overnite, slip it right on my top teeth. the molding process..not fun..my brother said it was the same..they shove that plaster sh** in your mouth on those trays. Ughh..but its quick and from someone who spent 3 years in metal braces as an adult, the molds was the easy part..LOL.

It depends on your insurance. Mine covered around half.
I too, had braces and didn't "retain." I had really crooked bottom teeth and my top teeth were also on their way to turning. I did invisalign before my wedding because I was sooooooooooo self conscious of my bottom teeth. I literally was at the point where my second tooth on the bottom ( I believe its a lateral incisor?) was almost straight up BEHIND my central incisor. Anyway, I did 12 sets of trays that I was supposed to change like every 2 weeks...but I didn't wear mine full time, so it took a little longer than the 6 months I was supposed to wear them.
I started the process RIGHT after I got engaged so I was fine with it taking a year. My problem was that the trays gave me a lisp...so I really only wore them from the time I got home at night, until the next morning...I do sales for a living and couldn't deal with having a lisp everytime I gave a presentation (ummmm everyday).
Anyway, do yourself a favor and get sensodyne now. I was DYING with how sensitive my teeth were. Sometimes the trays kinda dig into your gumline and that makes your teeth UBER sensitive. So have it on hand in case this happens to you...
That being said, invisalign worked AMAZING for me and I couldn't be happier. I had my ortho install a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth (sucks because i can't really get in there with floss, but I make sure I really get in there with an electric toothbrush) and my teeth are still PERFECT.
I highly recommend it. Its expensive but I honestly feel its worth every penny. There is really nothing worse than not being confident with your smile.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: invisalign
Thank you so much for the info everyone!!
I am glad I not the only one crazy about the molds LOL IM dreading it lol But whatever hopefully it will all be worth it.
My insurance (healthplex through the suffolk county PBA) does not cover adults...so I am paying out of Pocket. It is $$$ But if I don't do it now ill never do it. Plus im hopefully getting some money back for my taxes. It is much cheaper for me because I only have to wear them for 6 months, I am a relatively easy case. If you are interested in the price FM me.
I am so excited to get started and not feel so insecure anymore!!! Now im just praying I can get through the molds LOL

invisalign
This is a pretty old post, but I'm wondering if anyone's done it since 2011. I'm thinking about it b/c I have a big gap on top that I'm starting to get self conscious about. I started pushing my tongue forward while I sleep and it's making the gap bigger (I tried sleeping with the night guard, but it made me super drooly).
Some mentioned that it only took a few months while some said a year - I guess it just depends on how much straightening needs to happen?
Also, my dentist asked if I want him to do it when I first saw him 2 years ago, but I heard it's better to go with an orthodontist instead of just a dentist - is that correct?

Re: invisalign
I attempted it this year... I HATED it so much that I bailed on the top ones after a couple of weeks and the bottom a month or so after that. I still paid for it so it was a huge loss of $ but that's how miserable I was. They put noticeable sharp buttons on your teeth even the front ones and I constantly had sores in my mouth and on my tongue. I gagged from the trays randomly. And it was disgusting and annoying to have to keep taking them in and out to eat. But the absolute worst was the speech impediment I developed! I have an S last name and everytime I answered my work phone my boss would burst out laughing because I sounded so ridiculous lisping.
Clearly I don't recommend it. That said, my teeth especially my top really aren't that bad and people thought I was crazy for doing it so it wasn't worth it to me. if my teeth were very noticeably crooked maybe I would have tried to stick with it longer...
