Baby names
Did anyone in your close friends/family circle use your favorite name after you mentioned the name to them as a suggestion earlier.. i.e. when you were discussing babies prior to their baby being born and you ttc/or having a baby?
And do you discuss names now?

i don't really like to discuss my names bc i don't want anyone to steal them! I have told my sister and one friend, but my sister is done having babies and my friend is no where near that point so I am not worried about either of them using the names!

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
I'll start..
So years ago, my cousin asked suggestions for names and I gave two names that would be easy to say in school (gotta be mindful of that ) and had a wonderful meaning in our language.
Anyway, I didn't think he would use it years later.. and when he did announce the name, I was crap.. that would have been my DD's name (this was during wedding planning, so emotions were high). Anyway, I love my little niece and oddly enough she's a splitting image of me.. so I guess, it works out in its own way
When I said this to DH, he put the kabash on me and my suggestions.. so when another cousin of mine got preggo, and asked me, I was like sure.. and I didn't get back to her.. she was like, hmm.. I guess you must be ttc-ing since I didn't hear back from you. Of course, I played it off..

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
I have discussed names in the past and while none of my friends have "stolen" any of the names I liked, I did have a very good friend tell me that she was seriously considering using one of the names I liked. She said she felt bad and hoped I didn't mind if she used it. I told her that was fine as long as she realized that I still planned on using that same name one day. She wound up using another name.

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
I only seriously discuss names with DH... I throw random names out to my mother just to see how she reacts.
She doesn't like anything I suggest
But, yes, a silly part of me is worried about name stealing.

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
There are a bunch of girls' names that I really like so it has happened where family and friends have used a couple of those names. But my list was so long I don't think I would have any right to be miffed by that. We have 2 girl names and 3 boy names that we love and I'm not telling until I'm pregnant. And even then I'll probably wait until we know the gender

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
Kind of...my cousin was already pregnant, and we were talking names...I mentioned how I loved Julia/Julianne/Juliette, because of some special significance. She told me she had Juliet on her list....and that's what they named their baby.....but it wasn't like I really had a "claim" to it....she was pregnant, I wasnt....
I do talk names, but only with certain people...the cousin with Juliet and I are very close, and we talk names all the time!! I don't discuss with anyone but super close friends...
That said, a few of my best friends have names picked out for their future children...and I have those on my "can't use" list....

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
We don't really discuss names with anyone.
I have had friends mention names that are on our list as well, but I don't say anything because I don't really want anyone to know about our TTC process and saying too much about names would only invite questions.
So, when our time comes, if we chose a name that has been mentioned previously by someone else and they think we "stole" it, I really don't give a crap. It's not like any of the names are super original or unique.

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
It hasn't happened to me bc I refuse to share. I learned this lesson when my cousin stole my reception hall (turns out I found one I loved even more but, its just the point)
We have a gender neutral name already picked out and Im not telling anyone!
My BIL named his daughter Payton, I would love to steal it but can't have 2 in the fam!

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
I only share baby names with DH mostly because no one else I know is having or planning to have a baby any time soon.
I love coming up with baby names though and find myself making lists all the time
Honestly, my biggest fear about baby names is not that someone will take it but that after awhile I won't like the name anymore or as much as I once did. I can't even tell you how many names I was in love with that I swore I would name my kid that I just can't stand anymore!

same here!!
there is a big age gap between my siblings and i, and they are done having kids. none of their children have names that i would have picked. dh is an only child, and we don't have any friends currently preggo or ttc so we haven't run into that problem. i would love to bounce ideas off my mom & sis but they don't know i'm ttc so it will have to wait.
i remember when my sis and i were much younger, we both loved the name kaitlynn. we used to fight over it - "i'm naming my daughter kaitlynn" "no i am!" when she got preggo and found out it was a girl, i was like "kaitlynn?" she says, "nope, hailey" 16 years later, i have no interest in that name either

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
When I was pregnant with my DD and we were telling everyone the names if it was a boy (we were Team ) my SIL "claimed" that Hayden was ALWAYS the name she loved and wanted to use one day. She was so full of $hit. She just likes to be a PITA. I would be VERY pi$$ed though if someone actually "stole" the name we wanted.

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
Its funny about this. I had always had a name picked out for a boy, and when I told DH about it he LOVED it! We also have a girls name picked out (he came up with it and I LOVE it) and We have already told our family members. But there was a time when we were thinking about another name for a girl (which is all together silly since we just started TTC and this was a year ago) and when we mentioned it to my SIL she was all "NO - That's the name we want to name out daughter" and at the time she wasn't married to her fiance or even planning a wedding. My sister wound up giving her last son the name I want for a boy as a middle name. That's okay with me. Its a very common name anyway.

Re: OOTD 2/3/11
DH and i have encountered this one girls name since we've been travelling. we see it everywhere we travel and we love the name. so when my brother was prego with he told me that if it was a boy, he wanted to name it the male version of OUR name. (he didnt know that we already had the girls name). I told him that he couldnt cuz I thought of it first (mature, right?!) or else will have to deal with his niece having a similar name (only 1 letter off). he said well we are the pregnant ones so we get first dibs. It turned out to be a girl TG and i dont think he's having any more.
it was actually a weird coincidence that we like the same name.but i learned my lesson. im only telling mom and you guys when it actually happens.
