I've been to all of the Bay Ridge restaurants listed above (except Elia) and they're all fantastic. Areo's is definitely one of my favorite places.
There's also Il Fornetto in Sheepshead Bay and Mama Rao's in Dyker Heights.

it is probably the best restaurant in brooklyn. seriously.
I've been to those Mrsmerlot listed too and they are all good (though since Jolie changed chef's they have fallen off a bit)
my family is also really fond of Chianti, also in Bay Ridge.
I am celebrating in a very small and intimate brookly locale, Chateau Ophelia..b/c I am not dealing with Vday BS!

plus Elia is awesome
The Tuscany Grille is very romantic

Giando's on the water over looking the NYC skyline, it is in Williamsburg,Brooklyn. It is not far from Peter Lugars. I am sure you will need reservations.

We love Chianti..my dad went this weekend and he said it looked closed down..I almost cried

I assumed they were under renovations too, but then I just passed by there the other night and it said closed  I wonder what happened.
Also in Bay Ridge....
Casa Pepe if you like spanish/mexican food. This is one of my favorite restaurants and it has a nice ambiance to it.

if you are choosing not to make reservations make sure that you call first because alot of restaurants in bayridge are closed on monday's. i am sure that they are going to open for v-day but always call first to make sure.
