The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center is right near Foxwoods.
Mystic, CT is not far - maybe 15-20 minutes away. There's the seaport, aquarium, a tiny bit of outlet shopping, some craft type stores where you can get decor items.

They usually have some pretty good shows, but they're shopping is weak. Right now they have an ice rink going.

It's very close to Mystic which has the seaport, shopping, the aquarium, etc.
On the way there/back you can also stop in Essex CT, which i really like, and at Pepe's in New Haven for amazing "Apizza"
I just want to point out that unlike AC, you CAN smoke in CT casinos, so it's pretty gross.

I go there with my girlfriends all the time. We hardly gamble. We go to the HUGE Bingo hall and play Bingo. And dinners, and clubs/bars and the spa.
