Saw Dr. B last night

First thank you all .. youre the reason I found him and I love him. He was really easy to talk to and knew so much about PCOS ..

He's starting me on Provera to bring on my cycle .. I havent had one since Dec 09Chat Icon .. Hes also starting me on Metformin to control my insulin levels ..

Anyone else take these meds? Side affects?

*he did tell me a side affect to Metformin is weight loss .. I asked him for a double dose Chat Icon Chat Icon

ive been on both. provera is nothing. its like the last week of BCP. at the end of the dose or a few days after you will get a light AF.
im on metformin also, 1500mg. i maybe lost a pound or two from it, but i was normal weight to begin with. the biggest changes for me was lack of cravings and more normal bowel movements. i had no negative side effects from it, although i hear a lot of people have GI issues from it. it never bothered me though.

I've been on Metformin for quite some time......it's how I conceived my DD. I'm on it now again too in the hopes of getting pregnant again. I never had side effects (and I take 1500mg/day). I recommend taking them after each meal because if you take them with an empty stomach you may feel a little icky. My RE also told me about the weight loss however, not to burst your bubble, but it did nothing for me in that department.

It worked well for me. I have very irregular cycles and I started Met in Sept. 2007 and I ovulated on my own right after Xmas that same year and conceived my DD Jan. 2, 2008. I've been on Met again for over a year and I regularly get AF which is great. Sometimes I still have long cycles (like 42 days) but at least AF shows. Good luck with everything!

Re: Saw Dr. B last night

I was on Metformin for about 2 months and am definitely one of those people with serious GI issues to the point where I unfortunately had to stop taking it (throwing up, a LOT). I was told by some though that it eventually goes away if you can power through, and that most are totally ok on it.

Good Luck!

I was on 2000 mg of Metformin when I was ttc my first child. It hit me HARD!! I threw up when I first started taking it and then I ALWAYS had to be near a bathroom. I found though if you take it with milk, its much more soothing on the stomach. Good luck!!! I only took it for 2 months, and conceived!!!!!!

Re: Saw Dr. B last night

My dr did provera last mth it was fine after taking it 8 days later af came and was normal this week I started metformin and so far its not been so good I notice after 6 hrs of taking it I have bad pains in my tummy then have to be by a potty, I am feeling a little dizzy and naseous but I am hoping it will all get better soon. I start 2 pills next week and then move on to 3 pills. But I will do what I have to do to help control my pcos. She also told me not to believe the weight loss hype that if anything its like 3 pounds. But to also stay away from anything "white" like white bread pasta etc that it will aggravate the medicine and I will feel sicker after. I am going to a pcos specialist dietician tomorrow so hopefully she has some insights. Hope I helped and good luck
