Is this enough of a temp raise?

My first month of temping... and that 'spike' was the morning after New Year's Eve so... I was definitely still tipsy when my alarm went off to take my temp.

What do you think?

Re: Is this enough of a temp raise?

When you say tipsy do you mean you had been drinking the night before?? If so, that can definitely be a cause for the temp spike.

The best way to be sure if it was O is to wait and see if the temp stays high for 3 consecutive days.

Re: Is this enough of a temp raise?

yeah, it was a big night of drinking but it was calculated that that was my day to ovulate so i was anticipating the spike.

It definitely could still be that. Did you have other O symptoms? I'd say to assume that it was for now and just watch your temps the next couple of days - if they don't drop back down to the coverline, then you are probably right on.

When you say it was calculated that that was your day to O are you referring to the day of the temp spike?

Re: Is this enough of a temp raise?

I meant that ... my monthly cycles predicted that this would my O day (the 31st)

so the temp spike should've been on the 1st -- which is how it happened.

I was just expecting the rise in temp to be more drastic?

Re: Is this enough of a temp raise?

I believe the rule of thumb is the spike should be about .6 degrees higher than your highest temp of the past 5 or 6 days. I forget the exact rule. Does my monthly cycles give you a cover line? The temp should be above that coverline and stay above that for the luteal phase.

I'm not really sure how to do the coverline?

I dont think mymonthlycycles does it -- if so I'm not sure how to access that.

You may want to give fertilityfriend a try. Most of the girls on here who chart use it, myself included. When you first join they give a daily chart lesson too so it's really informative. You can even plug in all this months numbers.

Re: Is this enough of a temp raise?

anything above .3 degrees (and stays that way for 3 days) could indicate O.

I used MMC for the longest time (even before TTC) and I have to say I was hesitant to make the switch to Fertility Friend bc it seemed so much more complicated, but I was way glad I did. What a difference. I agree with Mrs. Devito - FF is def a good choice and it will be more accurate bc it takes into account other factors that you chart. My Monthly Cycles, I believe, only estimates off of your menstrual history. I always found it to be close, but never dead on.

I still say though for this chart, you may very well have O'd with that temp spike you see, but you will need 3 consecutive high temps to be sure.
