is this a myth or real?
was talking to some girls who have been pg at work...they said each time they went for their first check up after bfp..that docs did internal ( not sono) to make sure it wasnt ectopic.
i thought that you could only tell by sono of tubes etc...not by "feeling abdomen"....
i told the girls they were nuts...but am i???
seriiously if a doc can tell if ectopic by just exam...please explain how

Re: is this a myth or real?
Isn't it an internal sono? Like a wand or something that hears the heartbeat?

Re: is this a myth or real?
never heard of this. the only way i have heard for dx an ectopic is with rising or fluctuating betas along with no sign of a sac in the uterus via internal sono.

Never ever heard of this.
We had a transvaginal sonogram the first time -- to ensure it wasn't ectopic. I don't understand how they could "feel" it if the sac is so tiny it's almost non-existent. They did the sono and saw that there was a pregnancy in the uterus and it was not ectopic.

Same here- and I never got "checked" to make sure it wasn't ectopic!

Re: is this a myth or real?
okay so i am not insane....... they both literally said at 4 or 5 weeks pg they got internals WITHOUT sono to make sure all was okay and not ectopic.
well i googled a bit after i posted this and it said if fallopian tube is majorly inflamed they might be able to feel it through abdomen.....but rare.
so.... what the heck.
the girls were kinda po'd with me since this is what they were told by their docs that a reg internal is checking for ectopic
well... ppfft.
online in many places says true dxing of ectopic is betas, sonos ultrasounds and if there is pain being complained of.
ty ladies! hope no one has one....but its good to know the answer tyyyyyyy
