got bloodwork results and soooo confused!
ok just spoke to Dr. B with my bloodwork results..
backstory:
so basically DH and I weren't trying that long before going to the RE. I was having long, irregular cycles so I went to my gyn. He did a sonogram and said I had PCOS based on my cycles and my ovaries were full of cysts (they looked like honeycombs). I was really upset, but glad to have an answer. PCOS seemed to really fit because I have gained a lot of weight in a short time since being off bcp (30 lbs). My face is breaking out even though I never got pimples my whole life, I have extra hair growth, and I just feel really achy and tired all the time. I figured if I have PCOS it was best to go right to the RE to come up with a plan. Dr. B sent DH for SA which came back normal (phew!). And he sent me for a full set of bloodwork for PCOS and Thrombo.
fast foward to today...
Dr. B just called with my bloodwork. He said everything looks normal...no signs of PCOS He said I have low vitamin d and slightly elevated anti-annexin antibodies (I guess this affects the egg's ability to implant), but both are very treatable. He said it is possible to have poly cystic ovaries without having PCOS so that is probably what is going on with me.
So I guess this is all good news, but I can't help feeling confused. If I don't have PCOS and everything else looks normal, why have I been having these other symptoms? He said we will discuss everything more at my appt that I have next week.
Anyone else have polycystic ovaries but not PCOS? What were your treatments like for conceiving?
thanks!

Re: got bloodwork results and soooo confused!
I have symptoms of PCOS, including cysts in my ovaries and long, irregular cycles, but my bloodwork was not consistent with a diagnosis of PCOS, as I did not have insulin resistance.
That said, Dr. B is still treating me with metformin, which is used for PCOS, as he feels that this is most likely the cause of my difficulties. I have a few other things going on as well, including a minor clotting issue that is being treated with baby aspirin. Initially, he thought my major problem was that I have a chromosomal translocation, but after he learned that my sister has the same translocation and got pregnant without difficulty, he said that poly cystic ovaries are the most likely cause of my difficulties, even though I don't have the full syndrome.

I have polycystic ovaries but no PCOS. All my blood came back normal so yes it is possible. Because of my polycystic ovaries I was a very good responder to IVF. Good Luck

I also have polycystic ovaries and loooong (60-80 day) cycles. I don't usually ovulate on my own. But my bloodwork is always textbook perfect - no insulin problems, no hormonal or thyroid problems.
Luckily for me, since all is well except for the unexplained cysts and anovulation, I responded well to Clomid. Hopefully you'll respond well to meds too, since you're otherwise in good hormonal shape.
Good luck!
