New Job and TTC

We had just started TTC when I got a new job. So I reluctantly pushed back plans to TTC for a few months.

I've been at the job for 2 months, and I love it. We also just hired someone I have to train who will be qualified to take my job (and who will probably fill in when I'm out on leave) Technically I think I have to be at the job for 12 months to qualify for FMLA

How long do I wait? I'm 34, have one DC and would like to have 3 total.

I"d hate to lose the job, I don't want to be a jerk and get PG right after getting hired, but I don't want to put my life on hold either. I'm coming to terms with the fact that I will have to give up a nice maternity leave to keep the job. So bummed!!!

Any thoughts???Chat Icon

I would start trying anyway. Also you may not get pregnant right away and even if you did, you could still work (I assume) for a while.

I totally 100% agree.

I wouldn't put off TTC because of a new job. You just never know what is going to happen with your body and how long it may take to get pregnant.

It's great you love your job, and they'll love you there too! So don't worry about it! Everything will fall into place when the time is right! But I definitely wouldn't try to time TTC around other life events. It's just too much of a craps shoot to be able to plan.

I guess you guys are right...

It actually didn't happen right away because we tried for 2 months and then I got the job, so I'm 4 months off my plan

Its a hard decision - but probably one I shouldn't plan around a job.

Re: New Job and TTC

i have PCOS and had to see an RE to get pregnant. even though i knew it would take me longer, when i started a new job in march i took 2 months off of medicated cycles. i wanted to take 3 but i just couldnt. i ended up getting pregnant that first cycle back but i m/c very soon after. i finally got a sticky BFP in october and now im 12w. so by the time i have the baby ill be at the company well over a year (not that it matters cause i dont qualify for FMLA but thats a whole different story).
i say just go for it. you never know whats going to happen.

Wow - did the job get angry about you taking time off? I'm not sure what they can say. My first reaction was "good for her." I guess I just have trouble taking my own advice.

I was also worried because the new hire is a man and he wants to break into the field and eventually get a job like mine. I dont think they would push me out, but it will be in the back of my head.

I'm pretty reliable, but a new baby does take priority, and I can't give 100% to both. Its harder than I thought juggling a family and a career.

LOL i took two months off from TTC (i can pretty much only conceive with medicated cycles), not two months off of WORK! i wish!
