Not trying yet..but ? anyway

DH & I are a few years away from trying but i have celiac disease, which could lead to infertility. When we talk about the future and having kids, we always mention this. I have a gyno appt tomorrow and was considering asking him about infertility testing.

1 - do the docs usually test before you start trying (of course not yet, but closer to when we know we're ready to start)

2 - Do you think it would be overly proactive to ask now? or should i just do it?

I think its your choice to be tested before you start trying... you dont have to... if youre concerned about it then i would definitely have some tests done...

why does celiac effect fertility though?

It's found to be the cause of a lot of unexplained infertility/miscarriages. when you have celiac disease, eating gluten causes malabsorption and thus can lead to malnourishment. This can lead to early menopause, late menstraul cycles...
i was verrry malnourished when i was diagnosed 4 years ago. i stick to a gluten free diet now but im still worried that it caused damage to my body somehow.

im going to sounds nuts..but maybe look up elizabeth hasselbacks website or something with her bc i know she has this and has 3 kids..maybe she has advice or answers questions..

as for doc..i mean no harm in getting prenatal testing done but if u r waiting years before trying they would prob just do it again when u try..but i would def ask ur ob and maybe she or he has more info
