After the IUI
I had my first IUI today. I was a little surprised with how quick it went. I went in, doc did her thing, and i was sent on my way 10 minutes later. She told me to POAS in 2 weeks and call the office if it's positive.
I was a little surprised with how quick I was out of there. Especially because I had concerns: My last (and only-ever) luteal phase was only 10 days long, with 3 days of spotting after af. She told me that sounded fine.
Is this normal? You have your IUI and just POAS and call the office if you're pg; call the office for CD 3 testing if you're not? I guess I'm so used to going in there 2-3 times a week I was expecting more monitoring or something. Anyway, it went really smoothly and easily and DH was really sweet about it and took me out for breakfast afterwards. Oh, and right after the RE finished up and I was resting on the table, the song we think of as "our song" came on the radio so he thinks it was a good sign.

Re: After the IUI
hm..i do not really like that POAS thing. They should have scheduled a beta for you. Actually 2 betas. Did she mention anything about beta blood test? I would push on them to schedule it approx 14 days after IUI.
Yes, everything else seems right. Very quick.
Much of LUCK!

Re: After the IUI
Thanks for the babydust!
CuriousO, no, she did not schedule a beta. She literally said the words to me, "pee on a test 2 weeks from today and if it's positive, call the office."
I have a feeling this wasn't timed well, though. For one, I have no CM at all today or yesterday, and the procedure kind of really hurt the whole time. I read online that that can happen when your cervix isn't high and open like it is during ovulation - it was more closed, so the speculum hurt more. I'm skeptical that I O'ed at all actually, but that's the PCOS'er in me that gets follies all the time and LH surges all the time and doesn't ovulate so they just turn into cysts.

Re: After the IUI
Happy to hear that everything went well. It is funny how quick it goes. You get all worked up for approx 2 weeks and then before you know it, it's over, and then wait some more. I am also surprised they didn't schedule your beta, I guess all offices work differently.
Sending you lots of

Re: After the IUI
you did clomid, right? if so, it is clomid that makes you sore. I was soooooooooooooo sore i could barely walk from it. so you ended up not doing a trigger? did Dr tell you what exactly in those blood tests make her think you were ovulating? can you e-mail RE and ask these questions? also, i would schedule a beta. This "pee on a stick " quote annoys me, RE is getting paid tons of $$ to do a decent job.

Re: After the IUI
I was surprised that they didn't schedule a progesterone test for a week from now, let alone a beta!
I'm okay not having the beta - why take more unnecessary time off work? They only do it in the mornings. Plus, the copays are really adding up. Like $100 this month alone. POAS is much cheaper.
I'm still temping every morning. I should expect to see my temps jump tomorrow right? If I ovulated? If they don't jump tomorrow, should I assume that I didn't end up ovulating after all? I've only ever O'ed once before, and my temps jumped about .5 degrees... but I kind of think they jumped about 2 days after I actually ovulated. Is that possible?

Re: After the IUI
After my IUIs I always have a scheduled beta for two weeks later. I guess every practice does it different. I never went in for progesterone testing though- but I do use progesterone (Crinone). Dr.B says it's one of those things that's can't hurt if you don't need it, but helps if you do.

Re: After the IUI
Good luck!
Are you on progesterone? I don't get AF on progesterone. Also, if your AF is delayed at all and it's not coming up when you POAS, I would go in for a beta just in case. I guess if you're not on progesterone, it won't really be an issue though.
Look at CuriousO - she was sure she was out because the tests were negative and she's pregnant! (Congrats, again!!) Again, if you're not on progesterone, there's no harm in just waiting and I guess you don't need a beta.

Re: After the IUI
When I had my IUI, I was told to lay down for 10 minutes and then sent on my merry way.
I wasn't scheduled for a beta. The nurse said if I don't get my period in 2 weeks, come in for a blood test.
I agree with pp'ers - all practices are probably different. I would try not to dwell on it too much and concentrate now on relaxing and getting through the 2ww
Lots of luck

Re: After the IUI
I guess every practice is different. With both my IUIs I was told to come in a week after for a progesterone blood test, and not to test unless AF was late. As for the soreness, I know my dr. told me they don't like to use any lubrications, etc so as to not interfere with the sperm. It could also be the doctor's "touch" for me the first one was very uncomfortable and the second I felt nothing - 2 different people did them. and I believe the second person was much more gentle.

Re: After the IUI
Thanks for all the replies and for sharing your experiences. It really helps.
I'm not on progesterone. I was kind of hoping I would be, since I know it doesn't hurt if I don't need it and can only help if I do. Plus, my luteal phase was only 10 days last cycle, with 2 days of spotting before af and 3 days of spotting after.
This is just my first medicated cycle though. So i guess we'll see how it goes and adjust.
Now, onto my second 2ww in 8 months! It feels great just to be in it this month!
