NYC Restaurants for Out of Towners
Hey! Two of my friends are coming in from out of town and I want to take them to good restauarants for dinner and brunch (not too expensive). Any suggestions?
The last time they were here, I took them to Carmine's for dinner, Blue Water Grill for lunch, we also dropped by Magnolia Bakery and Crumbs.
TIA!

How about The Smith for brunch? downtown good location for shopping/walking around after in the E. Village/Triberca/Soho. I recently had dinner at Paptzul in soho - so delish! If they are looking to christmas-y stuff in midtown though, these would probably not be the places.

In midtown for dinner Marseille, West Bank Cafe (2 words Rissoto Balls!!), Becco, Joe Allen and Le Madeline. All are in the theatre district (I work in that area) and all are reasonably priced.
West Village for dinner- Cornelia Street Cafe and Good
I always liked the brunch at East of Eighth in Chelsea.
Also, for brunch The New Leaf Cafe in Ft. Tryon park is great. Plus, you can visit the Cloisters.

Agreed!
If you're adventurous, I say cart food (mmm chicken over rice) and if you can plan a month in advance, try to get reservations at babbo (mario batali). pasta tasting menu is to die for

Re: NYC Restaurants for Out of Towners
For cheap, I'd recommend PJ Clarkes or JG Melon. Great burger joints. There are a lot of great suggestions other people mentioned but they can be pricier.
For brunch, the Smith or Jane, same owners, are great. Its a bit of a younger crowd at Smith on Sundays for brunch but its fun!

What about Rolfs? Its SOOOO festive in there for Christmas - thats what they are known for.. Its small so you'll need a resy and its german food so only go if you like that - but you should go even if just for a drink just to see the lights!
