Dr. Appt today
So I have finally made an appt. with a doctor since we've been "not preventing" pregnancy for the last 8 months and no baby yet. I just wanted to have everything checked to make sure there are no problems. Anyways... no problems until 5 minutes ago when I realized they may have to take blood to check my hormone levels. PETRFIED of needles !!! Now I am freaking out. Does anyone know if they will probably be taking blood? Has anyone gone to get checked and didn't get their blood drawn !!???

if youre concerned i would call them...
a few remedies for needles...
have your ipod or something on when they do it... if not, make sure someone is talking to you when they do it... if you are the type to feel sick or faint tell them you need to lay down and have them do it...

Yeah .... I'm a fainter. I am sure whatever I need to do will be done, blood test or not. I just hate the nervousness leading up to it !

Re: Dr. Appt today
chances are good they will either take blood or send you to a lab for bloodwork. either way you need to just live with it cause they'll need to check your hormone levels. coming from someone who has had to shoot themselves up for the last year to get my BFP, i will tell you that it's all mental and once you get over it its NOT a big deal. i had the fainting issue with bloodwork a while back too, just make sure you eat prior to bloodwork and that your blood sugar is high, you will be FINE. good luck!

They will most likely be taking blood. I would bring a bottle of OJ and make sure you tell them you faint they will take extra precaution. Also make sure they have you lay down and try to think about something else while they are doing it. I faint as well and these things have helped me recently.

Re: Dr. Appt today
I was totally that way too!!!
My mom always used to say "Just wait until you get pregnant!!! They'll be sticking you and jabbing you for blood all the time and then you'll have no choice."
I used to get really upset with her when she said that.... but it's seriously TRUE. And once you are pregnant, you're not going to be able to think twice about getting blood drawn. You'll just have to close your eyes, stick out your arm, and take a deep breath, knowing that it's for a good reason.
If possible, try to think of it that way now. You don't have to watch them draw the blood. Tell the nurse you're nervous and she'll take extra precaution so it won't hurt at all. I usually turn away and hold my breath. I still don't like it, but I do it because it's for the safety of the baby.
Wishing you the best.
