Fell in love this morning!

Unbeknownst to me, the Evelynn Knapp 5K was off trail - it was in
Sunken Meadow park -

I am in LOVE!!!

I have never done off trail running before - I was always afraid of slipping (I'm a woos )

But it was the most enjoyable 3.1 miles of my life. My time was eh - there were tons of steep hills - like, where everyone had to stop and walk - it was essentially hiking - but I loooooved it.

So - anyone here into off trail running? Where do you go? I live in Northport... Are there any races geared specifically for off trail runs?

I've run the trail from Babylon to Belmont Park. I love the change, but I have not had the chance to run there lately. It's nice when it's windy and cold, the trail kinds of blocks it all out. congrats on the race!!

We loooooove trail running! Sunken Meadow is brutal, but we really love Caumsett. We'll run the pavement and then go off onto the trails down to the water. While I have to be extra careful on trails (depth perception thingie), it's so much more enjoyable!

love trail running but just won't do it alone. sunken meadow is a regular for me in the summer and fall especially. some of those hills are killers (cardiac and snake are the worst)
there is an beautiful trail right off waterside that goes all the way into makamah-i haven't run it in a while but really enjoyed the trail and scenery there.
and caumsett too-so awesome but just too far for me nowadays...

I have to agree with Miss Jones. I have gone alone and I think it's safe, but I always felt like some crazy person was going to jump out from the bushes. I'm slightly paranoid still from the patchogue woman in the 90s.

That was the course we ran in cross country for races in high school.

I'll go running there with you if you don't want to go alone.

But you are such a good runner!!! I really am so slow and not thatr good!!! I don't want to hold you back - if anything, you can at least call the cops if you hear me screaming for help miles behind you!

I'm fast on a treadmill, but a lot slower on the road. A LOT slower when there are downhills involved b/c of my knee pain, so don't worry. I don't like running alone either, so let me know when you are going and I will see if I can get a babysitter.

We should start a LIF running club.
