really stupid Q
what makes a thermometer a "basal" thermometer?
http://www.amazon.com/Fairhaven-Digital-Basal-Thermometer/dp/B0017RZHYY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1290308355&sr=8-5
this looks just like the thermometer we currently have... do I need to buy a new one? Our current thermometer goes to .10 of a degree. If I'm going to temp, I want to do it right... what do you all recommend?

Re: really stupid Q
Not a stupid question at all. I actually wondered the same thing. This is what I found online.
A basal thermometer is an ultra sensitive thermometer that tracks your body’s minutest temperature shift or basal temperature. Basal Temperature is the normal body temperature of a healthy person immediately upon awakening in the morning. This temperature normally rises after ovulation due to hormonal changes. Thus, a temperature increase near the middle of your menstrual cycle can indicate ovulation has occurred.

Re: really stupid Q
I use the regular digital thermometer that goes to .1 degree. The book TCOYF says its perfectly fine. I've been temping with it for about 2 weeks now.

Re: really stupid Q
TCOYF actually recommends NOT getting a thermometer that goes to the hundredths point (97.25). All that rounding up/rounding down when you're bleary-eyed and confused early morning isn't pretty.
Just get yourself a thermometer that goes to the tenths point and you're good. I like mine because there's a button to illuminate it - I temp at 5:45 in the morning and it's pitch black in my room then!
BD Thermometer (Yes, that's really its name!)
