Re: Best selection of melting chocolates?
I hate the "chocolates" they sell there.
I would go to WS and get the E. Guittard. they also sell them at Sur La Table.
or I would use Ghiradelli from the supermarket.
I am a snob. a major major snob though.
I made my MOH use Jacques Torres chocolate for the favors at my bridal shower. I told her I would rather not have them than have them made with chocolate I don't like!!!!

The wilton melting chocolates that are sold at AC Moore & Michaels in my opinion are gross. Fake tasting chocolate...
Go to a regular candy store (like Kerri's Kandies in Coram) that sells Merckens by the pound.

Thanks! I think Wantagh will be too far for me to get to, but Kerri's Kandi's is close by.

Kerri's Kandi's would be best if you are out in Suffolk. They have Merkens chocolate.
I love going to Chocolate Duck in Farmingdale. They have a HUGE selection of just about everything.
Totally stay away from Wilton's. So not worth it!

I prefer to use Ghiradelli chips and melt with some cream.

Totally agree about that melting chocolate. I'm not sure where you're located but in Queens there's a place called "Fun Stuff" on Metropolitan Avenue, I think right by the Michael's there. We always get our melting chocolate there.
Orrrr, if I'm doing a quick batch of choc. covered strawberries I buy the melting chocolate in the fruit section at Stop n Shop- it's called Dulce Frutta. It's always by the strawberries. It's so easy- you can pop the whole container in the microwave and the chocolate is actually very tasty.
This is what it looks like- it comes in white and milk chocolate!

Re: Best selection of melting chocolates?
So instead of doing the melting chocolate, can I just use Ghirardelli chips? They are on sale at S&S.

absolutely. I used them to make the ganache. melt them with some butter and cream. let sit to thicken and use as icing.
I dipped my cupcakes in to cover.

OK cool. I won't have a chance to get to Kerri's as early as I want to, and based on the reviews I don't wanna use the Wilton melting chocolates.
Will def post pics when I am done!
