Going to see some houses today update
After spending 3 weeks researching different neighborhoods, we finally chose one, our originial favorite. We have 1 in mind that we have drove by and love.
The thing is, do we make an offer even though we will be out of town for the next 6 weeks?
I know closings are between 30-90 days...is it worth taking the chance and hoping that the closing is after the 6 week period?
TIA

I definitely would let them know if you make an offer that you are going out of town. There is a lot of stuff to get done from the time that you present the offer to actually closing and you will want and need to be around for most of it!

Can't hurt to make the offer....most of the stuff you need to do (mortgage, lawyer, etc) can all be done via phone and fax...I would not mention that you are going out of town...none of their business!
I never met my lawyer until the day I closed!

Re: Going to see some houses today
make sure you have all your paper work in order to give to the mortgage place- that is the only thing that would slow you down
ask them ahead of time what they will need- paycheck stub, W2, etc

Re: Going to see some houses today-update!
thanks guys!!
we went to the house, really liked it. has been on the market for 3 months so I think they will accept a lower price. We got our preapproval letter, and buyers agent is doing research to see what we should offer.
DH will be able to come back for a day or 2 for the inspection, then buyers agent said we could just schedule a closing date when we are back and see if sellers agree.
loved the house, love the block, it is a quiet cuv de sac (sp) no garage though, but plenty of room to put one in. The back yard does have a slight hill, but towards the back going upward.
the one huge bummer is that the lady has 3 cats. I am so allergic...would not be an issue, but it is new carpets, ones that will have to be ripped up immediately and it is all over the house. Such an unnecessary expense.
has anyone moved into a place and was able to get cat out of the carpets if you are allergic?

Re: Going to see some houses today update
The only problems with a former owner having cats is when the new owner has a very sensitive cat....the new owner's cat marked the whole house, even after rugs were ripped up.
I'm sure you'll be fine after you rip up the rugs.

The previous owner of our house had cats. You won't believe the amount of cat hair under the carpet when we ripped it up. We also had to clean out really well the sideboards, because there was cat hair there too.

If you are that allergic..you will have to rip out the carpets and really clean the floors. The dander gets everywhere!
