Metoformin and/or Clomid
What is the difference? My DR suggested taking Clomid first. I have PCOS. Thoughts?

Re: Metoformin and/or Clomid
Metformin is not technically a fertility drug. It's actually used to treat diabetes but has been found to help women with irregular cycles start to ovulate. I took it for a few months before conceiving my DD and I've been on it again now for a little over a year TTC #2. Metformin also doesn't really require any regular monitoring.
Clomid on the other hand is a fertility drug that forces the maturing of eggs (usually multiple eggs) and in turn you will usually ovulate. Different women require different doses to see results and how much you need can vary from cycle to cycle. You MUST be strictly monitored by your OB or RE while taking Clomid to ensure that it's both working and not overstimulating your ovaries. You're also limited to a LIFETIME maximum of 12 cycles of Clomid because over time is tends to thin the lining of your uterus. Also, taking Clomid has a tendency to dry up CM so you won't see the usual EWCM that you would normally find right before ovulation.

Re: Metoformin and/or Clomid
I have PCOS as well and this is what my doc gave me...50 mg of clomid...that doesn't work 100..that don't work. Then 150 plus metoformin..
I didn't ask why to just it at that point..I'm hoping I don't have to and that the 50 works...
Good luck
