Re: Seeing a RE Specialist
standard response would be a year if you are under 35 and 6 months, if you are over 35.
I do not believe in standard rules, so I say that it depends. IF you know about some issues (such as PCOS), I do not see a need to wait even 6 months.

Re: Seeing a RE Specialist
you can go whenever you want. theres no minimum amount of time. if you have irregular cycles thats reason enough to see an RE. although if youve been off the pill only a short time its best to wait at least a few months to see if you regulate. however if you always had irregular cycles, you dont have to wait any set period of time.

Thank you I think I will wait to see if I get AF soon...I will see my OB and try to discuss it with her before rushing to the RE...I never had problems in the past I used to be regular before the pill...I appreciate all your help and knowledge.

if you know u have irregular cycles, it can't hurt to see a RE.

Re: Seeing a RE Specialist
Trust your gut. If you think something is up then go. This was our first month TTC #3 and it didn't happen. Normally I wouldn't think about going to my RE but it took 9 months to get pregnant with DS and I found out at my consultation that I was pregnant so we didn't get to do the blood work, etc. He did discover my hypothroid. I'm 35 and limited on the amount of time I am comfortable trying for #3 so I am going to go back to him to make sure he likes my thyroid numbers for TTC and talk to him about doing blood work etc since I am not pregnant. I would rather do it and hear all is well than wait 8-9 months then find out something is wrong b/c I do not have time on my side.

Re: Seeing a RE Specialist
If you know you have issues, there's no timeframe....... I knew I had PCOS and went after 2 months of being off the pill.

Better to go and not need it than need it and not go. Good Luck!

My thoughts exactly. We were only trying for a few months when I noticed through temping that I never ovulated. I went to my OB-GYN about it and she sent me right to the RE, even though we'd only been trying for 3 months. Her thought was, "you want to get pg, you know you have a problem - why wait?"
If you have health insurance that doesn't require you to get referrals for specialists, you don't need a referral for an RE.
