i dont think there is anything that would interfere... i think most people do it so that its easier to stop when they do get BFP

ITA its easier IMO to cut sweetners out over time then all at once, so that's why i cut out sweetners before hand

Re: what do diet sodas do while ttc?

i cut out all artificial sweetners before we started trying and i got pregnant right away. i'm not sure if it had anything to do with it but i stopped all diet products, artifical sweetners and caffeine around the time i stopped birth control...

i don't think drinking diet soda will have a negative impact on conceiving...but it can't hurt to stop drinking diet soda and even regular soda...i was a huge diet coke drinker and now i am addicted to seltzer with lemon - i don't even want diet soda anymore - it's weird...

quench your thirst?

I never heard anything bad about having diet soda when TTC. They just suggest you cut it down to about a can a day of caffeine after you become PG. Some doctors recommend cutting out artificial sweetener but some don't.

Re: what do diet sodas do while ttc?

I cut and copied this from amazing pregnancy.com:

There are no scientific studies that show adversarial effects on pregnant women who enjoy no more than one diet soft drink per day. While one diet soda a day may not seem like much, most dieticians and doctors recommend limiting your soda intake in this way so as to consume more juice, water and milk which each supply more health benefits and nutrients than soda. There are, however, a few aspects to consider.

NutraSweet, the brand name of aspartame, is a non-caloric sweetener used in diet sodas and many other foods. It is made up of two amino acids. The digestive track breaks down aspartame the same way that it would break down any other protein during digestion.

One of the proteins that make up part of aspartame is phenylalanine. Phenylketonuria (also called PKU) is a rare hereditary condition in which this particular protein is not metabolized. If you have a family history of PKU, you might consider getting tested. If you take in too much phenylalanine while you are pregnant, there is a risk because the high levels of phenylalanine can cause damage to the fetus.

In a healthy person fed sixty 12-oz cans of diet soda at one time, blood phenylalanine levels peak well below the sustained concentration level deemed harmful. Unless you suffer from PKU, phenylalanine does not seem to pose any threat.

Saccharin is another sweetener found in some soft drinks. It has been found to have teratogenic (causing abnormal fetal development and birth defects) effects in rats. It has also been shown to cause cancer in rats as well. Human studies have not found these effects. However, it is probably best to err on the side of caution when it comes to Saccharin.

Caffeine has been a part of many people's daily lives for over a century now. Whether it comes in coffee, tea, cappuccino or soda pop, many people either can't or don't want to limit their caffeine intake. While research has shown negative effects of an overabundance of caffeine in pregnant women, does caffeine affect your ability to get pregnant?

Some research has suggested that there is a connection between high caffeine intake and a delay in conception. For purposes of one study, "high caffeine intake" was defined as consuming more than 300 mg of caffeine per day. For another study, "high caffeine intake" was defined as consuming more than 500 mg of caffeine per day. A woman who is trying to conceive should limit her caffeine intake to no more than 300 mg per day.

Research has focused mainly on the woman's caffeine intake; there have been fewer studies on the impact of caffeine on male fertility, and these studies have produced ambiguous results. They suggest that a man who naturally (or from some other cause) has a low sperm count may actually improve his sperm count by increasing his caffeine intake. However, there is some evidence to suggest that, for a man who naturally has a normal or high sperm count, that high caffeine intake may indeed reduce a man's sperm count, making conception much more difficult.

Below are some common sources of caffeine and their amounts:
Brewed coffee, 8 ounces: 100-300 mg
Instant coffee, 8 ounces: 50-190 mg
Espresso, 2 ounces: 40-70 mg
Cappuccino, 12 ounces: 300-400 mg
Decaffeinated coffee, 8 ounces: 1-8 mg
Brewed tea, 8 ounces: 35-175 mg
Instant tea, 8 ounces: 40-80 mg
Diet Coke, 12 ounces: 45 mg
Mountain Dew, 12 ounces: 55 mg
Hot cocoa, 8 ounces: 3-30 mg
Milk chocolate, 1 ounce: 1-15 mg
Dark or semisweet chocolate, 1 ounce: 5-35 mg
Baker's chocolate, 1 ounce: 26 mg

As you can see, the amount of caffeine in a give product can vary greatly. Fortunately, many companies list the amount of caffeine in their products, either on the product label or on their web sites. The above guide is best used when you do not have access to more specific information.

Another site states this:

An Unhealthy Diet: Foods to Avoid
Foods containing preservatives and other chemicals, such as artificial sweeteners, should be avoided because they affect blood sugar levels and hormonal balance. Foods high in fat should also not be consumed.

Diet soda should be avoided, as it contains aspartame. Caffeine should also be limited, especially if you're having trouble conceiving, or while undergoing IVF. Caffeine constricts blood vessels, which reduces blood flow to the uterus and prevents eggs from attaching to the uterine wall.

Refined carbs, such as white bread, pasta and rice, should be limited. These foods lack nutrients, such as iron and B vitamins, which are important for providing a rich nutrient base to a potential fetus. Rye and whole-wheat sourdough breads are good options.

Eating whole grains is especially important if you have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal imbalance which increases insulin levels. PCOS can lead to irregular ovulation, which will hinder conception.

Eating a lot of meat is not recommended. Meat raises the body's ammonia levels, which inhibits the implantation of the egg in the uterus.

It is also recommended that you avoid drinking alcohol, taking illicit drugs and smoking when you're trying to conceive. Drinking more than two alcoholic beverages per week can increase levels of prolactin, the hormone that regulates milk production and reduces the chance of conception while nursing.

This was me too. I would totally advise anyone while TTC to start cutting back on these things, so when you get pregnant you're not "shocking yourself". I slowly cut back on caffeine too.
I miss coffee but I have decaf every day and it's totally fine.
