Re: pcos girls..
I do both.... I never used to get a smiley face and I could confirm that with no rise in temperatures. Now that I was on clomid this cycle, I was able to get a smiley face and see the distinct temperature change. Also those who have PCOS sometimes keep getting positive OPK's but never actually O... so temping would confirm if you did or not. Good luck!!

Re: pcos girls..
I'm really surprised your doc would tell you that. OPK's only tell you that you should be ovulating in the next 12-36 hours not that you definitely will. Temping is the only way to confirm that a positive OPK actually led to ovulation. And especially with PCOS where it is very common to get a positive OPK but never actually O.
I would absolutely begin temping to determine whether or not you O naturally and when you take the clomid that way you will be able to see for yourself if the dosage you are on is making you O.

Re: pcos girls..
respectfully, as someone with PCOS, i completely disagree with your doctor. i see an RE and he laughs at using OPKs at all because they are so inaccurate. esp. for people with PCOS.
temping is the ONLY way to know whether you successfully O. opks may NEVER give you a positive, or always give you a positive but not necessarily result in O. a major symptom of PCOS is high LH which results in completely inaccurate OPKs. im surprised your doctor doesnt acknowledge that.

Re: pcos girls..
LOL. you dont pee on anything
you buy a basal body thermometer and take your temperature at the same time each morning right when you wake up. then you chart the temps. for more info visit fertilityfriend.com or get the book taking charge of your fertility. its a great book with all you ever need to know about temping.
good luck!!

you are so cute. I want to hug you gina!!
get a basal thermometer.... take your temperature.
you could use the temping and opks.... that way you can keep peeing on things....

ITA with this.
I spent a lot of money on the CBEFM before being diagnosed w/ PCOS. You can imagine how thrilled I was when I started seeing the RE, did a few months of Metformin by itself to see whether I'd regulate my cycles, and I got an egg symbol! I was sooooooo excited and I remember we BD like rabbits Then my RE did my end-of-cycle bloodwork and confirmed that I never O'd. I was crushed. I sold my CBEFM to someone who would actually be able to benefit from it.
I never temped...I always did CD3, CD11 baseline bloodwork and sonos w/ my RE, and other sonos/blood as needed. Are you seeing a GYN or an RE? I think a lot of GYNs aren't extremely knowledgeable about PCOS, so if you are getting serious about TTC, you should seek out an RE. JMHO.
