so confused
I took a month off to re-group. During that time I have gone from one extreme to the other from really wanting a baby, being devastated with reality and then complete panic that I maybe making the wrong decision as to what I would be giving up to have a child. well back to square 1.
I want a second opinion so poking around on here and listening to recommendations I booked an appt with Dr B. I went to my GYN for a regular yearly f/u (why I am not sure) but while talking I mentioned 2nd opinion and she asked who and I told her. Her response was not what I thought it would be. I cancelled my appt. I know everyone has there opinion so I asked where she would recommend other than where I have been. She gave me paper on ECF. I see that there are many posts against them here and wonder now where I shoud go and need help

wow, im shocked. I have to say Dr B is the most amazing Dr and if someone told you other I would be curious why...can you fm me what was said...Im not sur exactly what you issues are but ECF and places like that are different from Dr B. I went there and they prescribed me clomid when I had had multiple MC, no blood nothing, sent me with a script in 5 minutes...

Re: so confused
The two of us have similar issues. When you have high FSH/egg quality issues you need an RE that specializes in that area. Unfortunatelly, I had to learn this the hard way...My gynechologist tried to warn me as well but I didn't want to listen....I am currently preparing to cycle with Dr Davis at Cornell who BTW is the top RE for women with our issues. Of course Cornell only accepts a couple of insurances and you need to check is you are covered by them. I'm not but at this point it doesn't matter because all of my fertility coverage is done with! It will all be out of pocket but at a place like Cornell it will be well worth it because you receive the best treatment possible. If paying out of pocket is definetely not an option for you, you should look into Dr Tortoriello of SHER. There's also Dr Check at Cooper in NJ. FM if you need more info!

Re: so confused
My GYN also recomended ECF at first. I went there and after a year and half I still had no success. I then decided to see Dr. B. after all of the glowing recs on this board. After I told my GYN about Dr B. he still wanted me to go back to ECF. He is not convinced that immunologic issues are associated with m/c or IF. It is totally your decision. A second or even thrid opinion can never hurt. I wish you luck on what ever decision you make.

I just want to point out that this seems to be the general opinion at Cornell as well.

Re: so confused
Most gyns don't have a clue about immune issues. Dr. B is a ob/gyn and specializes in RE. There is definitely a link between immune issues and infertility but not all doctors subscribe to the treatments. They really can't harm you but some of them may not be necessary or proven. Dr. B is very open to trying anything. thats what I really like about him. He is not a RE.
Now if you have PCOS he is great with that too but most docs can get a young woman with PCOS pregnant. Most depending on other factors have good success.
Bottom line, if you have age on your side it's much easier to get pregnant. If you miscarry a few times, then seeing an immune doc is a good idea. Dr. B specializes in recurrent MC. I would at least consult with him. You spend an hour of your time finding out for yourself. He is very charismatic and can be funny and charming..that's great and all but that won't get you to your goal. Go find out for yourself.
The RE community is different from obgyns. It's a whole other specialty.
eta: I want to mention that if you suspect immune issues Dr. B will work with any other RE and treat you for immune issues along with the other doctor.

Re: so confused
I am curious as well, but first I am sorry you feel confused and frustrated. I am in a similar position just coming off a break and feeling like I may need a THIRD opinion (was thinking of consulting with Dr. B).
Some background without hijacking your thread and hopefully helping with some of your confusion, not adding to it: We started off using the recommended RE after being told I have PCOS and DH having borderline results from his SA. One failed IUI cycle and I made a personal decision to consult with a very close friends recommended RE and have been there since (5 months). I am only considering a third RE because after months with this new RE it was just NOW suggested DH make an appointment with a urologist. Before taking a break I was so comfortable and confident my RE would get me a BFP (he did, it just resulted in a CP).
I guess I am just saying go with whom you feel most comfortable. Can you consult with both prior to starting your first cycle?
Good luck!

It was also the general opinion of two other RE's i've been to Luckily for me, i have no immunological issues, so its a moot point
As for what you should do.. I think you should go get a 2nd and 3rd opinion and try to make your own informed decision from those visits. As with anything on this site, you'll get some people that love one thing, and some people that don't. But in the end, YOU have to be comfortable with your treatment and dr
good luck!

ITA with this. There is nothing wrong with going for a consult at a new Dr's office and then you can decide for yourself. I went with my RE based on the recommendation of my OB GYN and a friend who had been there. But I also felt comfortable with them and have been happy with my care. I think that is the most important thing. If you have a specific issue, I think it's a good idea to research who specializes in it. Good luck!

Re: so confused
thanks for the replies. There was nothing specific about the reason why I should go somewhere else just that it would be recommended otherwise. I respect my GYN so i value her opinion. I appreciate all the honest opinions from all of you too. I know there is no "one fit for all" and it can be frustrating to go somewhere for a year with no real answers. I think I am going to get 2nd and 3rd opinions. It cant hurt and I have gone this far so why not.

Re: so confused
I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated and confused. I'm a patient at ECF. I see Dr. Zapantis, so feel free to FM me if you have any questions about the practice. The best thing you can do is see Dr. B and ECF and see where you feel most comfortable. Someone once said this on here and it has stuck with me - the best doctor is the one that will get you pregnant. No doctor has the magic potion. Just see who you're comfortable with and take it from there. Good luck!

Re: so confused
Due to your infertility diagnosis being high FSH, I would really suggest you going to someone that is high fsh friendly and someone you feel really comfortable with who is easily accesible. I had high FSH (14 highest) and was given the donor egg speech after my first failed attempt at IVF and I was only 28 at the time. Since we don't respond well to stim meds (we may only product 5 follies or less), sometimes RE may see us as a deadend. Either way, do a research online for FSH friendly RE and have a consult with them.

That is one thing I am not the "normal" fit for one protocol I am 'normal' by standards but my body doesn't respond well, so i want the best for my issue. Thank you!

ITA! And I wanted to add to this that the way that you respond will vary from one protocol to the next and being that you have high FSH you need some "special" tweeking to get a good response. And this is why us high FSHers need special attention!
