What stores?

What general grocery store do you go to the most? I have horrible luck finding general things at Stop and Shop and Waldbaums. There is a nice stop and shop near my MIL's house, but even that one is poorly stocked some times. And on top of never finding what I need, I feel like waldbaums are always kinda grungy. Are those the only large chains in Nassau or does anyone know of another chain that i should try? I do go to trader joes and wild by nature sometimes, but not for the general things.

Re: What stores?

Maybe Pathmark? The one by me in New Hyde Park is crap but the one by my parent's in Greenvale is great.

Re: What stores?

We do most of our shopping at Stop & Shop and quick runs at Best Yet.

What about King Kullen?

Re: What stores?

I need to see if there is a king kullen or a pathmark near me. Are they nicer than waldbaums? Im in long beach and thats the only large market on the island. There is associated, but its more expensive and very small. I think thats why our waldbaums is always out of stuff!

Re: What stores?

Stop & Shop is closest so I usually go there. I also find alot of stuff at Target. About once a month I go to TJ.

Exactly what I do.

I go to Whole Foods and Trader Joes for specialty items. I also use a butcher if there are specific cuts of meat I am looking for.

there is a king kullen in rockville centre which would probably be the closest to you and there is a pathmark in east rockaway, which i find is not so great.

Re: What stores?

The average Stop & Shop (anything that's been remodeled or opened within the past 5-ish years) tends to be much better than almost any Pathmark, and only the nice Waldbaums (Patchogue is a good example) are close to being as good as S&S.

Shoprite would be the best chain on LI, but there aren't that many Shoprites on LI and Bay Shore and West Babylon are not so good. Hauppauge is pretty good though.

Re: What stores?

Stop and Shop because it's a stone's throw from my house. I also rotate with Target but they're more of a "get whatever in a pinch" type of place----not for real grocery shopping.

I haven't gone to TJ's in awhile because the drive is a PITA and not usually worth it with DS.

Re: What stores?

Shop Rite is my fave here in LI. The closest one to me is in Plainview, but the prices are totally worth the trip for me (I'm in Valley Stream). We go once a month and stock up. We only go on weekends and they always have plenty on their shelves.

We have King Kullen near us and it's clean but by Saturday the shelves have nothing on them. They restock Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights. It's annoying. They're also not the cheapest.

Re: What stores?

there are two in plainview..I like the one on Old Country Road the best.

The same owners of that franchise are opening one in Commack too.

Re: What stores?

Our stop and shop is much nicer, really bigger, than our king kullen.
