Question re: the pill and getting pregnant quicker once you go off

A friend once told me that her OB dr. told her that a woman can get pregnant quicker if she has been on BC, then goes off. You have a better chance.

I have not been on the pill in years. This makes me worried. Is there any truth in what my friend was saying? Have you heard of that before?

Well I came off the pill in August and this is our second month of really trying. I am not sure how what is suppose to be considered fast when coming off the pill but I have heard it is suppose to be easier when you get off the pill to get pregnant. I have heard doctors putting their patients on the pill to try and help them get pregnant. I don't know if it regulates them more or something.

I've never, ever heard that.

I didn't even get my period for 90 days after I went off the pill. I had to be prescribed provera to kick-start it. The cycle after that was 85 days.

So in 6 months after going off the pill (after 11 years on it), I think I maybe ovulated once. I would say for me, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant faster by staying on the pill longer.

We waited 2 years after I went off the pill to TTC. It took me 3 cycles at that point, but even those cycles were extremely irregular. We were just very fortunate.

I think some women are just more regular than others and that could help. I don't think spending years on hormones effects that though once you go off it. But I'm not a doctor, of course.

I've never heard of that at all.

Instead, I've heard many many stories about irregularity after coming off BCP. Some girls have issues with their bodies regulating themselves after bcp; their cycles seem to be all over the place for sometime.

There are of course a bunch of girls who have no issues whatsoever.

I HAVE heard that you can be more fertile the first cycle coming off BC...

but my guess is IF that's true it's because you've been on it for awhile and all of a sudden you aren't and your body maybe jumps at the chance?

BUT my guess is that its NOT necessarily true.

what probably IS true is a lot of people get pregnant right after they go off bc but only because they think they CAN'T because theyre told over and over that it will take their bodies some time to regulate (true) but that doesn't meant that you wont ovulate right away and lots of people just have unprotected sex that first month because they think they can 'get away' with it.

not sure, but the first time i did get preggo the first month off the pill. So maybe some truth to it. I think it probably just depends on the person.
A long time ago, my old gyno told me that it was good to be in the pill becuase you weren't releasing an egg every month, so you were kind of saving your eggs. But who knows if that is true either.

i got my bfp the first month off the pill without really "trying" per say...meaning we just had unprotected sex.

we only had sex 2 times in the timeframe that i think i could have gotten pregnant. i think i conceived after the very first time we had sex b/c on a calendar that day makes the most sense to me. we only had sex twice before the 13th of october and i think i had to have already conceived by the 13th for it to show up as a bfp on october 22 if i plug in a 28 day cycle for me it says i probably conceivied on the 8th and we on the 5th and 9th.

i read that coming off the pill and trying the first cycle does increase your chance for twins b/c some women will hyperovulate the first month off bcps and release more than one egg - which would also make you more fertile. but there are also other people who take awhile to ovulate at all.

realistically i did not think i would get pregnant right away. i am so glad i did and i hope it sticks but i am in shock that it happened so quickly.

part of me is a little nervous b/c i didn't give my body a chance to regulate before getting pregnant - i am hoping my body is able to do what it needs to do now...

ETA: i had been on the pill, the patch and then the pill again consecutively for 8 years

I recently discussed this with my dr. He said you are very fertile when you first come off the pill when we want to start trying just stop taking BCP and replace with prenatals and go for it since that is the best time to try.
He also advised that there is no reason to wait as the pill comes out of your systems incredibly fast so not waiting to regulate will not cause any harm to the baby if you get preg.

i have heard that for some women they get pregnant faster when they stop bcp...but i think it varies. This was my first month off bcp and i got my period on day 39! which is not normal at all for me but i also have other hormonal issues (reason why i was on bcp in the first place)
