Re: Need Opinions.. QUICK.. Boxed Wine, Yah or Nay?
Actually box wine has come along way. I LOVE good wine, and my SIL who is a HUGE wine snob introduced me to "Black Box Wine" Let me tell you this wine is delicious!! They have both red & white varities.
And $20-$22 for the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine makes it taste that much sweeter.

Re: Need Opinions.. QUICK.. Boxed Wine, Yah or Nay?
I hate the word tacky. It just feels like everyone seems to consider themselves as an ultimate arbiter of good taste and manners.
/rant.
Bottles are more expensive and generally the better brands and types are bottled. Having said that - I'd probably get a box of Zinfandel for those who drink it since Zin seems to be pretty static no matter what vehicle it comes in. I would also consider a box of red and white as well - but I'd still stick with at least a couple of bottles for rich reds or crisp whites though for the wine connoisseurs in the crowd.

If it is a matter of cost and the boxed is cheaper, just transfer the wine to nice festive glass pitchers

Re: Need Opinions.. QUICK.. Boxed Wine, Yah or Nay?
I think there are many box wines that are much much better than the cheap bottles, like barefoot and yellow tail, but I think people perceive box wines to be cheaper tasting, so your guests may not appreciate it.

Totally agree. I think much of the time it's perception rather than taste that puts people off. If you put the wine in a nice decanter I will guarantee you have at least one person compliment it as being a good or great wine!
