went to the ob/gyn today
for my yearly checkup and to discuss my whole long cycles thing. she told me to wait another 10 days for my period (today is CD 41 ) and then to go get a blood test for all this stuff: hormones, PCOS, diabetes (??) etc. then i go back to her in six weeks and if i am not pregnant on my own, we start metformin. does this sound right to you?? you guys are my gurus on this stuff.
anyway, it feels good to have finally gotten some professional advice on my long a$$ cycles. i still feel insane, but slightly less so.
hope everyone is doing well.

Sounds like a great step in the right direction! I'm on metformin for insulin resistance related to PCOS. Is she planning on putting you on it based on results of the bloodwork or no matter what?

Re: went to the ob/gyn today
ya know, the appointment was kinda quick and i dont feel like i fully absorbed all the information but i THINK she said i'd go on metformin based on my blood test results. orrrr maybe she'd put me on it if my period didnt come in 10 days. grr. i really should see my doc with a pen and paper in hand.

If you don't get AF on your own I imagine you would start provera. That's progesterone and brings on your period.
Metformin is given for insulin resistance in people who have PCOS.

I'm glad you were able to get advice from your OB and that you are feeling slightly less insane!

Exactly! I'm thinking you combined the two things she said in your head.
And as silly as you may feel the pen and paper is a great idea. There is so much info thrown at us at doctors appointments, it's next to impossible to remember and keep it all straight.
I would give your doctor a call tomorrow and see if she can refresh your memory. Remember, she is working for you so you should ask as many questions and call as many times until you know exactly what is going on and feel 100% comfortable.
Good luck!
