Re: fertilization question?

as long as you are healthy i think the biggest hurdle is timing... there is only a specific amount of time that the egg can be fertilized...

Re: fertilization question?

I know what you mean. WHen you're younger they drill it into you how easy it is to get pregnant.

Now as you get older and you're trying you realize it's not so easy and you only have a short window of opportunity. You have those 2 days pretty much when you O and the sperm have to be strong and fast swimmers. Doesn't always happen obviously.

I was reading somewhere (of course i cant find it right now)... but that the sperm just kinda swim around aimlessly if the egg is not there when they get there... so its really just coincidence if the sperm bumps into the egg...

Re: fertilization question?

I dont get it either but must be timing. Someone posted the other day that it takes the sperm 10 hrs to get to the egg, ***! They look like they swim so far on TV and movies like "Look who's talking" Haha

Also I wonder if sometimes the fertilized egg just doesnt implant? But would that be chemical or no?

it can take up to a few hours but if the conditions are right it only takes 15-30 minutes

Re: fertilization question?

according to my RE not every egg is fertilizable every month.
also the right sperm have to be in the right place at the exact right time for fertilization to occur.
in the case of a BFN cycle - the chances are much stronger that fertilization did not occur, than that fertilization occurred but implantation did not happen at all.
if implantation begins to occur and fails it is in most cases a chemical pregnancy.
it almost seems like getting pregnant is more dumb luck than it is science.

if i remember right from watching "the miracle of life" in high school, it's kind of a rough trek for the spermies! like storming the beaches of normandy.
