Did anyone's DC hurt on the bus by another kid? UPDATED
DS is only 3. He has a matron on the bus.
Well, he just came home with tears, a runny nose from crying and bleeding from a cut.
I asked her what happened. She said he leaned over another child next to him. I told her he was bleeding. She had not even noticed. Then she volunteered to say that DS leaned over the other kid and the other kid who much bigger than DS and wacked him in the nose. So she will put DS by himself tomorrow.
He has a cut just at the base of his nose (between the nostrils). It took 10 minutes for the bleeding (of the cut) to stop. His nose is all red and a bit swollen.
I called the company that oversees all the bus companies and officially reported the incident. I officially requested for DS to be seated by himself.
I am so pi$$ed. DS is only 3. The matron on the bus is assigned to HIM. She is supposed to "protect" HIM.
Anyway, I called the PED. They told me to put ice and monitor until tomorrow. We won't know if it's broken until a couple of days when it is not as swollen. Of course, DS does NOT want anything to do with the ice.
Should I worry that something could be wrong with DS? It is a blow to the face.
Bitten last week in the classroom. Wacked in the face by another kid in the bus.
********************* UPDATE:
It's been a few hours now, and it does not look like a punch at all. It looks like the kid has bitten EJ's nose. There is a cirlcle on top of the nose with red marks like teeth and that would explain the cut under the nose from bottom teeth.

Re: Did anyone's DC hurt on the bus by another kid?
I totally understand why you are upset - and I would be shaken up as well. BUT it kind of sounds like an innocent type of accident. I'd probably - nicely - ask her if she could please be more aware of his actions since it is very disconcerting to see your child come home bloodied.
As to if my own child was ever hurt on the bus.. not by accident. Robbie once stepped on a kid's head on the bus. Long story - he didn't mean it - the kid was crawling under the seats and Robbie was stomping his feet. And YESTERDAY Noah got punched in the stomach and pushed over by another child on the bus. Robbie had to jump in and hold the kids hands. The kid threatened to poke Noah's eye out with a pencil!! The reason? The boy wanted to sit alone on the bus - but Noah had to sit next to him because there were no other seats left. I'm not terribly upset with the boy because the child has some handicaps - but I'm FURIOUS with the driver because he pulled away from the school while the scuffle was taking place and was totally oblivious after the fact. I've asked the school to please make sure that Noah is able to sit apart from this child in the future.
ETA: I misread.. I thought he leaned over another kid and somehow bumped into him. I didn't realize the other kid HIT HIM... and possibly BIT HIM ON THE FACE??? That is completely different. I'd be at the school first thing and would have a long talk with the matron, the bus driver AND the matron's supervisor. There is just NO excuse for EJ to have been hurt like that. I'm sorry
I hope EJ is feeling better soon!!!

OMG Sophie!
I am so sorry.
I don't know what the protocol is, but being the insane mommy that I am I'd demand a new matron, whether or not he is seated by himself from now on. A bite on the nose from a child older than 3 is serious, IMO. Poor EJ!!

That just stinks....
Can I assume that all of these children are special needs?
Is the matron just for him or is she for all of the children on the bus?
How many children are on the bus?
While I understand why you are upset it sounds like to me that the matron was going to handle it appropriately. Perhaps she put him next to another child b/c she didnt want him to be sitting by himself...
Unfortunately things do happen. While it is upsetting when our children get hurt I dont see that there was really any wrong doing.

Honestly, it sounds like EJ leaned over the other child and the other child got nervous and bit his nose (perhaps the other child has an issue with personal space). I understand it's upsetting, but I think with kids it's just one of those things that happens.

Poor EJ. I hope he's feeling better and that the issue on the bus is resolved.
