Organic Foods
What are the best places to buy organic? I live in the Freeport/baldwin area and would love some suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Organic Foods
Trader Joe's, but they don't have the biggest selection of organic. I go to the one in Merrick but I think there's one in Oceanside too.
I find Whole Foods to have the best selection, but they're a little pricey. There's also Wild By Nature on Long Beach Rd. They have a pretty good selection and their prices are similar to Whole Foods.
HTH!

Re: Organic Foods
I have gotten stuff from trader joes, whole foods, and stop n shop..mostly stop n shop due to it being up the block and cheaper ... I adore their chicken cutlets that are in a bag wrapped by piece, they are by far my fave.

Re: Organic Foods
Stop & Shop has a pretty large selection.
You also may want to check out the local farmer's markets. I believe most of them go through November and I am pretty sure most of the stuff is considered organic.

Re: Organic Foods
It's too late for this year, but google CSA's - community-sponsored agriculture. You can buy a share in an organic farmer's crops & pick up a weekly box of produce at local sites. We did the Golden Earthworm CSA a few years back & it was awesome! We got so much produce - and it was so fresh - it lasted for weeks!

Re: Organic Foods
I really just get it at stop and shop when I need it because there is no Trader Joes or Whole Foods, there is a Wild by Nature but it's still kind of far...

Re: Organic Foods
Stop n Shop is very competitive. Wild by Nature has some great items too. If you are near Plainview, Fairway is good for eggs, milk, fish, meats, etc.

I joined a CSA this year and I highly recommend it. Golden Earthworm also has a winter share, and an egg share. definitely take a look at their website.

Actually, Stop and Shop/Nature's Promise chicken is not organic, it's "all natural," whatever that means. A lot of people assume that the Nature's Promise label means it's organic, but it is misleading, as it doesn't always.

Re: Organic Foods
I really appreciate everyone's suggestions. It's nice to know I'm not the only one trying to eat a little bit better. I gave up smoking (socially) in June and that was hard but I did it anyway. So now, I'm going to go a step further and eat a little bit healthier!
BTW, has anyoe ever used the CSA with Restoration Farms?
