Talk to me about Zumba
I usually take spin, boxing circuit and body sculpting. I took what I "thought" was a Zumba class at the gym the other night and, well it was  I want to try it again somewhere else, but tell me what you love about it and what it has done or is doing for your body

Hey girl - I actually never liked Zumba. I've taken many classes and have barely broken a sweat in each of them. That may because I danced competitively for a zillion years so it doesn't challenge my body. I mean it's fun and all, but it's never a workout for me, even a master class I took.

I've taken a few different zumba classes now, and some were great and some I didn't like at ALL. It really depends on the instructor and their style. It is a different kind of workout than the ones you said you normally do, but it can still be a high intensity workout even though it's dance-based - just depends on the instructor and how they run things.
The class I take now, I leave soaking with sweat. It's not a "feel the burn" type workout like, say, a sculpting class or something that really targets certain muscles, but we're jumping, lunging, squatting, spinning and shaking our hips for an entire hour, so it's a great way to get some cardio in, and I've noticed that it's helped tone my waist/hips/butt. And I keep going back because I'm having fun.
I'd say definitely try again with a different instructor. You might find a better match and like it better. But if not, maybe you're just not a zumba person... and that's OK too

I don't like zumba. Only took one class that was fun and made me sweat. I guess it all depends on the instructor but I'd rather take a real dance class and learn choreography.

Everything depends on the instructor. There are amazing Zumba instructors and there are crappy ones - just like there are amazing kickboxing, step, spin instructors and crappy ones....
I teach Zumba - I love it - but I have personally walked out of some classes. There are maybe 2-3 instructors that I feel are at a level where they can not only keep my interest but make me sweat my a s s off. It takes a lot to make me work as well since I taught fitness for years and danced.
I have people who love my class because it makes them really work and sweat. But I have lost a lot of people for the same reason - they said it was too hard, too strenuous, etc. But that's the class I teach. They are probably happier in the classes you guys are describing and think those instructors are amazing.
Zumba is not for everyone - but if you can find a kickass class, you will see major changes in your fitness level and body. Since being involved in Zumba I run faster, and lost a lot of weight and inches....

I took Zumba a few times, but agree with the AP who said they barely broke a sweat. Doesn't really do anything for me.

actually hurt my knee last time I was there but now I'm back from vacation and ready to go! I'm probably going to hit up her 10 am classes - perfect for when kids are in school!

She got me hooked too! I then got two of my friends hooked & now I have 2 more going tonight. I have absolutely become toned, slimmed my waist a little. . I was surprised.
I also took many classes I HATED until Diana told me about Joann.
ETA- I'm in the Village too. To avoid driving jericho the whole time, I either take park or Depot Road to Jericho, it's right past Baja Grill (elwood shopping center)
