What restaurant dishes do you wish you could recreate?
For me:
CF Pasta Da Vinci RL cheddar bay biscuits Panera broccoli cheddar soup Deep dish pizza
For one reason or another, the copycat recipes I have tried just aren't quite the same.

Hands down, the carrot-ginger salad dressing from Yaffa Cafe. It's a place in the East Village that I go to all the time. They don't bottle the stuff and I cannot find or make a reasonable facsimile!

I used to go to Yaffa like 10 years ago, actually, thinking about it now, I feel old. They use the same dressing as Dojo did 20 years ago! Here is the recipe!
Carrot-Ginger Dressing/Sauce
2 Small, peeled carrots 4 TBS Mirin (can get at Whole Foods or ANY Asian market-it is a sweet rice vinegar) 4 TBS regular Japanese rice vinegar 1 tsp sesame oil 2 TBS soy sauce 2 TBS fresh, grated ginger 1/2 lb silken tofu (this is the VERY soft kind-at most supermarkets) 1/2 inch slice of a small red onion 1/4 tsp sugar 1/2 small clove of garlic pinch of salt canola oil (optional)
Puree all ingredients in a Food processor until smooth. Can add a little canola oil to "cream it up" a bit but not necessary. The tofu does that pretty well. Serve over rice , tofu and your favorite vegetables.

LMAO...I've been going to Yaffa since high school...which ended more than 10 years ago for me so I'm right there with ya!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The tofu threw me off - I never thought that could be the key ingredient!!!!!!
I need a "dance of joy" smiley right about now.
And, I am pretty sure that I love you for this.

Re: What restaurant dishes do you wish you could recreate?
Some of the dishes we had this summer in Italy.
For example a pesto gnocchi dish we had in Florence
The freshness, no preservatives of their food just can't be recreated

PF Chang's lettuce wraps.
Back in the day I loved the Kenny Rogers Roasters bread bowl chicken pot pie. Now I realize they must have been SO bad for you. However, they went out of business and nothing's ever tasted that good No other bread bowl was the same.
