If you could do it all over again...
I have been cleaning all day. Purging, organizing, etc. I got to thinking about my desire to throw everything in the yard, and start all over. If you could have a brand new house or an empty house and start all over, what would you do? Would you have different organization systems in place? Less stuff?

Funny you ask this. If I could do it all over again, I would buy LESS stuff b/c half of what I have bought is not needed anyway. I would love to start over with a LOT of things.

well being that I just moved into an empty house we threw out a ton of stuff. After we were moved in I wish I threw out more stuff!!

i think i would do everything pretty much the same....we lived in a 1 bedroom together for a few years and just bought our house a year ago - between the small apt and only having a house for 1 year we haven't acquired too many things....ask me again in 5 years i'll probably have a different answer

DH and I just started our lives together so we both tried to come into the marriage with just the bare essentials. We made each other throw out so much stuff before we moved in.
We both come from households that had a lot of clutter and we refuse to be like our parents! lol

Purging, purging, purging!!!!!!!!
Only buy pieces I REALLY loved and are timeless not necessarily "cheaper".
Think big picture and expect a "life expectancy" out of my stuff for 10+ years.

our parents are like that too....DH's Mom likes a lot of stuff, her walls are filled with artwork, pictures, etc. but at least she buys new things that are in style...my parents are hoarders! they have too much furniture but won't throw anything away since it's either antique or hand-me-down and they have tons of stuff, a lot of clutter. my dad still has papers from college!
so we are both the opposite, we try to be minimalists

We both lived at home before we bought our house (3 months before we were married) so we had nothing. I had minimal stuff from when I had my apartment in storage but we needed everything new. We bought everything we needed and nothing extra. Although I did buy DH a recliner that is supposed to be in our basement but it won't be done for a few years.

We will be moving within the next year & keep telling DH I'm not taking anything but my clothes, shoes, jewelry & scrapbooks with me
I want to have a huge tag sale & whatever left can go to good will. I need a totally clean slate in the new house!

This is what I keep trying to tell my DH. Better to invest in good pieces than cheap out.
As of right now we have a pretty clutter free house. We have many rooms left to furnish....
