New Here - Dumb Questions

Hello everyone! DH and I have decided to begin TTC, and I have a really dumb question. I know so many people who have had a hard time, so I'm going into this thinking it may not be as easy as I would like. So I purchased some ovulation tests with the dip test but I have NO IDEA how to begin. Why do the instructions say to do this for 5 days . . . etc. Any advise.

Thanks ladies!

Re: New Here - Dumb Questions

I have an app on my ipod touch that i use to track my period and it tells you when your most likely to ovulate based on the dates of your period...

So the first date that it said i was likely to start ovulating... i took a test...

That was CD10, i didnt get a positive until CD12... we Chat Icon on CD13...

I wouldnt know when to take the tests if I didnt follow that tracker

The first month I used all seven tests before getting a positive. I guess it would depend on how regular your cycles are. Even knowing I have long cycles, I still use them starting around CD14 to make sure I don't miss it in case I have a shorter cycle that month.

Well, my cycle has been a little off lately. I finally got AF yesterday (abt 1 week late). So do I start taking the tests like sometimes towards the middle of next week?

if your cycle is irregular then yea i would start the end of next week... they say 3-5 days after Chat Icon ends

Re: New Here - Dumb Questions

My cycles are super irregular and I never had success with the OPKs -- I only had bought a 7-day pack and my cycles were so long that I'd never quite start around the right time. I think I would've had more success with the 23-day packs. Hard to miss, even if your cycles are 60 days with that one...

We only were TTC for a few months when I unexpectedly got my BFP. Turns out I conceived around CD47. I don't think I ever would've hit that with the packs.

Good luck & lots of baby dust to you!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh boy! What are 23-day packs? I'm so nervous about not being able to conceive. I stopped taking BCP in January and everything was normal, and I've had some spotting issues since May, and AF has been very light/shorter than normal. Like sometimes only for 2 days

They're just the same as those 5 day sticks only there are like 20 something in the package. So you're supposed to be guaranteed not to "miss" the right day.

It sounds like since you have been getting AF, you're in good shape. You've got a good 5-day window or so to get pregnant depending on the strength of your husband's sperm, so if you're just starting out, one of the easiest things to do is just Chat Icon a lot, especially in the middle of your expected cycle. A lot of women find that every other day seems to work.

Try not to stress -- it's definitely not helpful!!! I know it's tough, but try to enjoy the process and be excited about it. Chat Icon

Thanks for the advise . . . I never thought I would be one to stress over this; and we've just started TTC. I guess bc it's something I don't have total control over
